Some information from Wikipedia:
The building was originally designed by
Czech architect Jan Letzel. It was completed in April 1915, and the new building was named the Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition (HMI). It was formally opened to the public in August that year. In 1921 the name was changed to the Hiroshima Prefectural Products Exhibition Hall, and again in 1933 to the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.[...]
The Genbaku Dome, originally home to
Shima Surgical Clinic, was initially scheduled to be demolished with the rest of the ruins, but the fact that it was mostly intact delayed these plans. As Hiroshima was rebuilt around the dome, it became a subject of controversy; some locals wanted it torn down, while others wanted to preserve it as a memorial of the bombing.[...]
The release at 08:15 (Hiroshima time) went as planned, and the
gravity bomb known as "
Little Boy", a
gun-type fission weapon with 60 kilograms (130 lb) of
uranium-235, took 43 seconds to fall from the aircraft to the predetermined detonation height about 1,900 feet (580 m) above the city.
[28] The site also states that the aircraft had traveled 11.5 miles away before it felt the shock waves from the blast.
Some blahblah by me:
I've visited this place last year in April and it's so shocking. We also visited the museum that's super horrible =(.
I think I'm going to watch two of my favourite animes this evening "Barefoot Gen" and "The grave of the fireflies".
