Narnia + Myths + Pevencest = MY LIFE

Dec 16, 2005 22:26

I went to Barnes and Noble to buy the entire series, since only owned The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Magician’s Nephew.

Some points on my latest obsession, The Chronicles of Narnia.

References to Myths (aside from Christian themes)

a) Shasta warning King Lune by running nonstop = Philippides race from Marathon

b) The meeting of Shasta and Aravis of Ancient Kings = Pyramus and Thisbe meeting at the Tomb of Ninus so they could runaway together

c) The Witch turning her victims into statues = Medusa’s ability to render others into stone

TBC

My Susan/Peter obsession has caused me to read these books in a whole new way.

Susan/Peter Moments

a) The two older ones...stood in the passage talking about it in whispers long after she had gone to bed.

b) “Susan,” whispered Peter, “what about you? Ladies first.”
“No, you’re the eldest,” whispered Susan.”
And of course the longer they went on doing this the more awkward they felt.

c) She and Peter felt pretty shaky when they met and I won’t say there wasn’t kissing and crying on both sides.

d) “For my brother, Peter the High King, defeated the Tisroc a dozen times over, yet long before that day our throats would be cut and the Queen’s grace would be the wife, or more likely the slave, of this prince.”

TBC - I'll probably add to these lists in the next few days.

Susan/Edmund moments

a) “Hullo!” thought Shasta. “Although they’re king and queen, they’re brother and sister, not married to one another.” (..see he thought so too!)

b) “I should have loved you less if you had taken him” -Edmund to Susan

TBC

Man, I seriously have better things to do BUT CLEARLY NARNIA OWNS MY SOUL.

narnia owns my soul, susan/peter is so very wrong yay!
