Blair, wrecked truck, insurance and Simon...

I've been trying to think of more details to this fiction and they're not coming clearly. Jim and Blair are chasing a hit and run driver through Cascade (shiny red car?) and some numbnut in an SUV runs a light and hits our boys, even with Jim's lights and siren. Blair is severely injured, Jim not quite so much but he tried to brace Blair, seeing that they were going to crash.

Whole lot of yelling at the hospital and way too many people are much too happy to blame Jim because he drives an OLD TRUCK (lots of guilty feels) but then it comes out that Simon refused to cover Jim's auto insurance after what he considered too many accidents and cut his coverage from the Major Crimes budget. Eventually William Ellison gets all litigatious and offers to sue "everyone" on Blair's behalf. A few saner voices are convinced Blair (and Jim) survived because he was driving 'heavy metal', even with no airbags and Blair, when he finally recovers, has no blame to offer Jim.

I seem to also remember a dead reporter, a disgraced professor with strange beliefs and two acolytes in a van but that may be another story I'm confusing.

Does anyone have any help to offer me?
