alternate universe, Jim is a crime boss in Cascade
I think I'm going crazy.
I've spent two weeks looking for this one fic on Archive of Our Own where I remembered first reading it a month ago. I've gone through all 2511 fics, as of this moment. Backwards and forwards. Three times. All 126 pages of it.
AO3 has a rather hideous search mechanism so I kept a journal entry to make sure all possible combination of words I remembered being in the fic was used. I have a journal entry keeping track of every single author with multiple fics so I can put a definite negative symbol in front of their names in the search bar so they'll be excluded. I have another journal page to negate all crossovers. And another negate all Gen or Het fics. @_@
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Two chapters only from what I remember. Jim's a mysterious crime boss, takes over the criminal element in Cascade. Everyone simply refers to him as Panther. His character establishing moment is when he saves an Asian grocery store from a protection racket only to turn around and demand money from said store. The young girl cashiering either remembers Jim or Jim remembers her from years back in Asia during a war. She thought Jim was going to save her again.
50.00 USD was the original price. Under Panther it goes up to 100.00
I think first chapter was written from an undercover cop's point of view. The cop is being beaten around by "Panther" because he interacted with a very withdrawn, very submissive Blair. Panther threatens the cop to never again pay attention or grab Blair. Then it goes into how Panther came to be so cue the Asian grocery store.
Somewhere in there was a scene about prostitutes who get to a certain age then find themselves retired. With money, to their stunned surprise. They were forced to give up a good chunk of their earnings for "investments" and well, euphemism, you know. Not so. Panther actually has retirement accounts set up for his prostitutes once they age out! The investments made money.
Blair is kidnapped from a bus station in second chapter, I think, but it's a flashback of how he ended up with Panther. Blair is hidden away, never allowed to leave Panther for any amount of time....or maybe he was because I think I remember he still went to school. He went somewhere. At least long enough to encounter the undercover cop.
I can't remember this chapter very well because it didn't seem to have much details. It was rather short and brutal, what happened to Blair. Panther simply feels him out when his senses became calmer, deduces it's this kid at the bus station and takes/enslaves him, end of story. D:
