woman centric stories

Mar 21, 2010 11:09

I'm considering doing a bigbang podfic challenge focusing on women characters. I'd like to try and do it in the Sentinel fandom, but I'd need stories to look over that really are about Megan, or Carolyn or Naomi, not just using them to interpert Jim and Blair's behavior, or helping them in their relationship ( Read more... )

I've been trying to think of something longer, since I'm assuming a bigbang podfic would require longer stories. You might try Something Told the Wild Geese by Bluewolf. It covers a lot of Naomi's early life although it segues into Blair later.

Or perhaps Oye Como Va by Micah Loden which has little slices of Naomi and Blair as he's growing up.

After the Party by Escargoat is shorter but is Naomi only.

Two Beds and a Coffee Machine by Banshee looks at an early slice of life for Naomi.

I forgot I also have a Naomi list, so you can look through those as well.

Good luck

I just have to do 15,000 words, and they are fine with it being broken up into five different stories, so short is okay.

I've been looking through the lists, and I had intended to go to TS alllstars anyway. I've got three possibles so far, if the authors give me permission.

The first part of Something Told the Wild Geese would work very well, if the story had ended there. To me, it read like two stories in a series.

I love Oye Come Va, but it's got too much of Jim and Blair in it, and I'd have to think about it pretty hard since the style it's written in might not translate well into podfic.

After the Party is one I've noted that looks like it would do fine, if Escargoat gives me permission and Two Bed and a Coffee Machine, since it's a song fic, would fit both music wise and reading wise for a podfic.

thanks so much for your help.

Fascinating - I've got another story, never posted, that I always felt was two stories cobbled into one, but I never thought that about Something Told the Wild Geese.

It does seem to come to a natural break at

'Feeling for the first time that she was not burdened by any responsibilities or even potential responsibilities, the wild goose flew totally freely.'

before it shifts to Blair's story, and if you wanted to use that first part, I would be perfectly happy for you to do so (and no hard feelings if you don't).

I'm not sure I can use just part of a posted story, I'd have to check, and then, to be fair to the listeners, I'd need to record the whole story, which I would be cool wih doing. It's a story I like, but I'd have to think about how to do the logistics, because I couldn't post the second part in the ladiesbigbang challenge, it wouldn't fit the requirements. If you want to give me permission to do it when I have the time, that would be cool, since I may have to screencap it and send it to the mods of the ladiesbigbang challenge, if they will accept a partial story.

I've asked the mods of Ladiesbigbang challenge if I can split the story up, and I'll let you know what they decide. Thanks for giving me permsission and even if I can't do it for the challenge, I'll eventually (I've got a long list of stories I'd like to do )podfic it anyway.

Ladies big Bang said okay. The time to post for the challenge is in the fall, so I'll be doing it in the late summer. Thanks a lot, mate.

::pouts:: After the Party is too short(has to be 500 words) and I'm having trouble locating Banshee, the author of Two Beds and a Coffee machine.

Tuning in after a rather long break here - for Naomi stories, I have her as a rather prominent character in most of mine but she takes center stage in this one, called "Gimme Shelter" (gen):

Thanks, Magician - lots of stuff here I haven't read :-)

Cool, I'll add it to my list. IIRC, Naomi actually appears off and on throughout the Cop!Blair series!

I had re-read Gimme Shelter when I was looking for stories on the women characters, and I just re-read it now, after your comment popped up in my email, to double check what I remembered. I like the story, and it gives us some background for Naomi, and some interesting conversation, but the story would have to be 75 percent focused on her, and it's more like about 40 percent.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. If I ever get caught up on my podfic project list, it's one I would enjoy podficcing.
