So, let's see for example... Jim was with the Chopec for a long time. He could easily have unknowingly left a pregnant girl/wife-by-Chopec-custom behind. And even with fic writers' tending to treat women as useful for nothing else than to have babies, it wouldn't be unreasonable for the child to be a Sentinel.
Or from season 1, the episode Attraction. We know he slept with Laura. We don't know if he used any protection. What if she got pregnant? Happens even when one has birth control, after all.
As a side-point, Jim's uber-attraction to Laura because of pheromones could easily be because she's carrying the right genes to produce a Sentinel-child with the right father. Oooh, I'll go to the talk group for that.
