What popped to mind immediately is Polly Bywater's "A Round of Tumult." It's not an AU, but a post-TSbBS story. I think the second half of the story really fits what you're looking for. Slash ( ... )

All of these are where the sentinels are considered the "good guys" by society. The first one has Jim is the head of the planet, specifically because he is a sentinel. I hope these are what you are looking for. Happy reading ( ... )
