“Why does he have to be so defiant and evil?” Yunho groaned, kicking the little trashcan beside his desk. “Why can’t he just be boring and dull like everyone else? I’ll bet you he’s prolly one of those bimbos that try to act like a smart ass when they’re not.”
“You’re acting like this is some kind alien feeling? How hard is it to believe that you’re attracted to an appealing looking guy? You’ve gone down the road with a bunch of people - men or women. Stop acting as if you’re innocent.” Yoochun rolled his eyes in annoyance. “Besides, I’ve talked with Jaejoong hyung a few times. He’s really not as bad as you say he is. Actually, he’s really nice to me. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Not…not as bad? Are you kidding me? That’s because he’s only nice to you. I don’t get it. There’s not that much of a difference between us - status wise. We both live in the same flat, we’re smart, good looking; capable of getting whatever we want. What’s there not to - ”
“Geez, for once in your life, can you mention something other than our status? So what if your father owns the top law firm in all of Seoul? So what if my father is the head director of some well known hospital? What is there to be proud of? You know very well that all our fathers care about is the success of their business and I don’t mean the number of clients they help. Does my dad care if a patient can’t afford insurance? Hell no. Will your dad accept a case with open arms, knowing that the client has no money? Of course not. What are we really proud for, Yunho? I understand that we’re fortunate for coming from financially supported families but for god’s sake I wish you wouldn’t be so arrogant when it comes to social status. I wish you’d see people in their shoes rather than under the soles of yours.”
Yunho was silent for a long while before he eventually crossed his arms, scowled, and plopped himself onto his bed. Yoochun sighed, and he knew he had struck a nerve within his best friend. He didn’t mean to make Yunho feel guilty, actually, he wasn’t even sure if Yunho felt guilty or not. All his life, the brown headed man hadn’t exactly been the kind of guy to willingly experience life outside the luxurious environment. Yoochun shifted his glance nervously at his friend before slowly sitting down on the bed.
“Look, hyung. I’m sorry for sounding so harsh, but I won’t apologize for the point I’m trying to get across. I just want you to know that we’re nothing like our fathers and you know that. We wouldn’t have ventured out and rented this flat in the first place, remember?”
“Yeah, yeah. Spare me your ‘good nature’ lecture,” Yunho muttered, tucking in one of his long legs. “I don’t need to be reminded of how I’m such a ‘spoiled brat’. I know that already. You don’t have to keep on telling me. I’m sorry Yoochun, but I enjoy it. I love having my trusty chauffer drive me around and I love driving luxurious cars because it makes me feel good. I love eating the finest cuisine because...I guess you can say I've never really had anything lower of that standard as a kid. I love having nice things because it makes me feel good. It’s something that not everyone can have and I just feel great knowing that I’m one of those few people that can have these things. What’s wrong with that? That doesn’t make me a bad person, does it?”
“No, hyung. It doesn’t,” Yoochun said, shaking his head. “I understand. You’re not a bad person at all. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the luxurious things in life. You’re not selfish and you think of your friends."
"Uh...that only applies to you."
"You help them when they need you," Yoochun continued, but not without shooting Yunho a shut-up-don't-interrupt-me glare. "You’re nothing like your father because I’ve seen you doing whatever you can to help the unfortunate. I’m not saying these things to make you feel any less of a good person, Yunho. I just want you to see life through a different set of eyes. Try taking the bus sometime - ” Yoochun stopped in mid sentence as soon as he saw his hyung’s eyes widen in surprise.
“Uh - okay take your motorbike then,” Yoochun suggested, and felt slightly relieved when Yunho snuggled back into the pillows. Yoochun fought the urge to chuckle as he continued. “Try spending some time around the people you don’t normally talk to on campus. You see me hanging around everyone and not just one group. No offense, Yunho, but there’s a reason why I’m not always chillin’ with your group.”
“They aren’t that bad.”
“Shit, whatever you say,” Yoochun scoffed, and winced as Yunho gave him a light slap on the leg. “Jaejoong’s really nice, hyung. He’s probably just annoyed with your attitude. I’m sure you know how you are with people in general,” He snickered at Yunho’s sudden pout. “Now I’m not telling you to change yourself completely. I think he’ll like you just the way you are - without the overdose of arrogance.”
“What makes you think I like that…pea-person?” Yunho asked, cocking an eyebrow challengingly. “I could care less of what he thinks of me. I don’t have the problem; it’s he that starts beef with me.”
“Eh? Pea?” Yoochun asked, confused. He blinked a couple of times in thought of what word Yunho could have possibly meant. Then it dawned on him and his eyes widened in realization. “Oh god, Yunho. Don’t tell me you called him a peasant?! How many have I told you not to use the P word?! You know that’s not nice!” Yoochun suddenly raised his voice, and he knew that Yunho knew that this was going to be the beginning of another lecture for the usage of the P word.
“Hey! He was trying to make me sound like an obnoxious-spoiled-punk!”
“YOU ARE!”
“SHUT UP!”

“Are you stupid?”
“What?”
“She gave us enough time and you still can’t get your lines right? You’re holding the script in your very hands. You really are a brainless idiot, aren’t you?” Jaejoong scoffed, shaking his head. “You ask me here to practice our lines and you still haven’t memorized even half your script. What the hell do you even do with your time?”
“Yah!” Yunho scoffed, shooting a glare downwards at Jaejoong’s direction. “I shouldn’t be guilty over some lame play when I’m busy enough as I already am with my father’s business and school work itself.”
“School related things eh? Wouldn’t this be considered school related?” Jaejoong asked, cocking an eyebrow as he waved his script around. “I really don’t get you. You don’t really strike me as the type to actually want to do something like this.”
“I don’t.” Yunho sighed and dropped himself onto the table, resting the flat of his feet on the seat. “My mom’s crazy about this kind of shit. Ever since I entered middle school, she has always wants me to be the lead in every school play possible. Kinda pisses me off, really. She always made sure that I got the part,” Yunho scoffed with a bitter smile. “Even if there were people who deserved it more than me, who wanted it more than me, they never got the part.” He waited for a response from Jaejoong, and he turned around to find the man’s gaze elsewhere. “Yah. It’s only polite to listen to someone when they’re talking.”
“I am. I don’t really have to look at you to listen to you, do I?” Jaejoong muttered, still staring forward.
“Yo, hyung!” A voice suddenly rang out, disturbing the silence. Jaejoong and Yunho’s heads shot up to the owner of the voice. Changmin was running towards them with his lunchbox in hand.
“What brings you here, Minnie?” Jaejoong asked, glancing down at Changmin’s empty lunch box. “I’ve told you earlier that I was going to be practicing my lines with Yunho for lunch.”
“Yeah, I know. I just wanted to tell boss - ”
“Boss?” Jaejoong’s eyebrows shot up, and his eyeballs went wide. “What boss? You have a job without my consent? Who is your boss?” He asked, inching forward towards the younger victim.
“Uh...” Changmin saw Yunho’s mouth open from the corner of his eye. Knowing that Yunho would get the pleasure of pissing Jaejoong off, he had to cover himself quick. “Did I say boss?! Ahaha, oh no, it’s just this thing where Yunho makes me call him boss, master and he calls me slave and all! Hahaha! Jokingly, of course. You know how brotherly love works and you know how cocky he is! He doesn’t mean any harm at all! Don’t take it seriously, hyung!” Changmin’s eyeballs widened as Jaejoong practically glared fireballs at Yunho. The only difference was that Yunho wasn't actually on fire. Oh shit. “Ahhh no, JJ hyung! I don’t mind it! Yunho hyung means well! Really!”
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU OBNOXIOUS BASTARD! YOU WANT EVERYONE TO GET ON THEIR HANDS AND KNEES AND KISS YOUR FEET, HUH?! YOU DISGUST ME, JUNG YUNHO, GO TO HELL! I HOPE A BITCH TEARS YOUR LIMBS FROM LIMB TO FUCKING SCRAWNY LIMB WITH SIX INCH FANGS, EATS THEM AND SHITS YOU OUT AND EAT YOU AS SHIT SO THEY CAN SHIT YOU OUT AGAIN!” He yelled from the top of his lungs, turning towards Changmin, his skin once pale now pink with fury. “MINNIE! I FORBID YOU TO SEE THIS PIECE OF CRAP YOU CALL A 'BOSS', EVER, AGAIN!”
With that said, Changmin gaped with wide sockets at his fuming hyung as Jaejoong stormed off past him, but not after beating at Yunho repeatedly with his rolled up script. He found it ironic how Jaejoong forbid him from seeing Yunho, yet he left his maknae with the very enemy. Oh no. What will Yunho think of me - ah!
“Yunho hyung!” He squeaked, turning around to see Yunho now hovering over him glaring daggers, he could swear that if he imagined hard enough, those daggers would be slicing right into his body. Even if he was slightly taller, he felt like a mouse and Yunho was the man eating lion. “I-I’m sorry, hyung! It’s just that I’m so used to calling you boss, I wasn’t careful and I don’t want Jaejoong to know that I have a job and - !”
“Wait, what? What do you mean you don’t want him to find out? You’re a grown adult. I don’t see why you would need Jaejoong’s approval to get a job. You make it sound like he runs your life. Don’t you live with your parents?” Yunho asked, curiously, raising his eyebrows in question.
“Hah? I don’t recall ever saying I still live with my parents. If you’re talking about my biological parents, I have no idea where they are. I don’t live with my adoptive parents either. Jae hyung didn’t want to trouble them, so he moved out and we followed after.”
“What? Wait. Wait. Jaejoong and - so he was just staying with you guys?”
“Yup.”
“Why was he staying with you guys?” Yunho questioned, still trying to figure out what Changmin was saying.
“Nah. He was adopted with us.”
“Wait, you guys - you guys are step brothers? Us? Who's 'us'?”
“Junsu hyung and me, yeah. We were adopted all together. Jaejoong didn’t want to burden them any longer so he left and we followed suit. Junsu and I go wherever he goes. If you haven’t noticed, it’s he that takes care of us,” Changmin replied, grinning cheekily as he slipped around Yunho to hop onto the bench table. “Hyung has a stand set up in the backyard of our apartment and it is as busy as hell! I still don’t see why he can’t just open up a small shop, but hyung keeps on insisting that he wants to save up to open an actual restaurant. I mean...he can always find a higher paying job, but he always insists on staying close by. Gah! He’s so stubborn - not to mention paranoid! We’re not little kids anymore, but he still treats us like kids. That’s why Junsu and I are having our own jobs in secret. We’re not gonna let him know but until we accumulate a good amount, we’ll present it to hyung and get scolded for it waay later. So please, keep it on the down low, alright?”
“Huh, well...” Yunho sighed. “You sure are evil for letting me take on his wrath for a mistake that happened to be your fault,” He said, trying to maintain the irritancy itching to slip out in his voice.
“I know and I’m sorrry! You’re doing us a huge favor by keeping this secret!”
“Well you’re not going to make much from being a janitor now, are you?” Yunho sighed, crossing his arms as he looked away. “Alright. Since my dad put you under my supervision, and my assistant quit on me a few days ago, I suppose you can fill in for her. She was a rather useless employee.”
“What? Are you serious?! Really?! AH hyung, thank you so much!” He almost squealed with glee as he hopped off the table and onto Yunho’s back.
* * * * * * * * * *
“Is there anything else you’d like me to do?” Changmin asked, bounding quickly into the office with a stack of copied forms in his arms. “I’m not off until another two hours. I told Jaejoong hyung that I was going over to a classmate’s for a study session. I hate how the library hours have changed. Normally it would be opened 24-7,” He sighed, and pouted at the thought. "Construction around campus is a real bitch. I don't see why it has to look even more spiffy when it looks glamorous enough."
“You certainly don’t act very professional, especially when you're working for me. Should I be insulted?” Yunho asked, half smirking with an eyebrow raised. He resisted the urge to chuckle. “You’re one weird weirdo...and unusually intelligent. Haven’t you ever thought of becoming a lawyer?”
“Huh? A lawyer? I dunno... my current majors are set for Economy and Business. Our economy’s been going downhill for as long as I can remember. Either way, as a kid, it’s always been my dream to make a difference. So sure, I’d say it has crossed my mind before. Isn’t that why you want to become a lawyer?”
“Yeah, it is. Well, I mean, my dad’s a prosecutor but it’s not like he’s flawless,” He sighed, pinching his nose in between his eyes. “Obviously, this kind of information is never released to the public, and I know I shouldn’t be telling you this, but I trust you won’t tell anyone. If you value your life enough, you won’t tell anyone about this. I don’t mean to make it sound like a threat, but I’ve seen it all. My father has all the connections with the police. If he wants someone framed, it can be done. The press twists the truth to make our firm look reliable and incredibly trustworthy, when it is clearly the opposite. People ramble on about how great this firm is when it’s nothing but a bunch of bull. As for the success stories? He only helps whomever he thinks is worthy and if you don’t have the money, you might as well get lost. He hates the defense attorneys because they help the guilty. He hates the defendants for accepting help from the government, since, as you know - the government pays for the lawyer appointed to them. The people who complain about us to the press pay for it by either loosing their jobs or their freedom.”
“I’ve...never realized it was like that,” Changmin mumbled softly, slightly clenching his fingers tightly against his palms. “Well, if it makes you feel any better, you know you’re nothing like your father right? When it’s your time to take over - “
“Huh, that’s funny. I’ve told my father countless of times that I would never succumb to his bullshit and he didn’t take me seriously. I said I’d leave with a firm of my own and knowing him, he said he’ll do whatever the fuck he can to make sure that it doesn’t happen. That bastard runs my life in every aspect you could think of. I can’t even have a proper girlfriend because he -!” Yunho rasped, shooting up to his feet as he nearly slammed his fists against the table. "There's a lot to my past, that I don't feel comfortable talking to you about, Changmin. Not yet..."
“H-Hyung...” Changmin took a step back, almost fearing Yunho for just a moment, but that feeling was suddenly replaced with sympathy. “Did...did something terrible happen to her?” He knew it was a stupid question to ask, but his mind couldn’t help but probe for some answers. Yunho was a good man, he was his boss, and it was only natural to want to know everything about a person he cared for.
“I don’t -” Yunho opened his mouth to speak, but it looked like he had changed his mind last minute. “Never mind. It’s nothing important, really. The point is, I can’t just rebel against my father because I feel like it. That would be unwise and careless. This sort of thing takes time to work out. I'm still determined to free myself from his grasp. I mean he’ll let me slide in some situations, but when push comes to shove, he really isn’t someone to mess with.”
“Wow, the Jung Yunho is intimidated by an old man.” The young boy whistled, and chuckled lightly in an attempt to cheer his boss up.
“Hey,” Yunho said, fingers twitching against the paper weight as he is tempted to throw it at his assistant's head. “There’s a reason why I keep you running errands around my floor. I can’t tell you one thing I’m sure of, though. Don’t go anywhere near his domain, I mean it. Nor will I allow you to go anywhere beyond. You’ll continue to stay either on my floor or lower. People are a lot more sane around this area. I don’t have any business for you to be up there anyway,” He sighed, settling back down into his seat. “The only business my father has when coming around here is to talk to me and to walk me through my training. It's not like I take after him completely.”
“You’re a good guy, hyung,” Changmin laughed, shoving his hands into his pockets as he turned away in an attempt to hide his chuckle. “I just didn’t think I’d ever expect this sort of scenario from you.”
“Oh yeah? Did my facade really fool someone as smart as you? To be honest, I didn’t think you’d be surprised to hear about typical scandal like this,” Yunho snorted. Leaning back into his seat, he tilted his chin up towards the ceiling as if in deep thought before continuing once more. “But if you were to become a lawyer, I’d have no doubt in my mind that you’d be a pretty damn good one.”
“Eh, really?” Changmin asked, his eyes widened in surprise. Yunho nodded. “Ah hah...thanks, boss. It really does mean a lot,” He chuckled nervously, scratching at the back of his head. “Jaejoong doesn’t worry too much about what job I choose as long as I love it. Personally I’d be more concerned about reeling in the income but I’ll love anything as long as I can make a difference.”
“He certainly doesn’t look like he's got it bad,” Yunho scoffed.
“Hm?”
“Jaejoong. That guy talks big, but if people were to look up his background information, he'd better be prepared for humiliation.”
“Yeeeah, he tends to do that. As I’ve mentioned before, he’s incredibly prideful and stubborn. But status aside, as a person, he's so much more than what he appears on the outside. Ah, I'm getting mushy now, aren't I?” Changmin sighed. “Sometimes I wonder if he even has time to himself. You should see how he goes all out for our birthdays, Christmas, and everything. Of course I help out with the finances and the budget, but most of the time he’ll shoo me away unless it’s something he really can’t figure out. Ah...I don’t even wanna imagine what he’ll do to Junsu and me when he finds out about our jobs. Aish! Why am I thinking about this now?! You-You’ll save me, right? Hyung?”
"Well, not after the last time -"
Before Yunho could answer, Changmin’s phone suddenly blared out a loud playful tune, and the boy immediately glanced at Yunho sheepishly before digging out his phone.
“I’ve told you countless of times to have your cell phone at least on vibrate, Min!” Yunho sighed exasperatedly, shaking his head as he slapped the palm of his hand lighting against his forehead. His head shot up in alert as Changmin’s voice suddenly driven his heart into a slight panic.
“Jaejoong hyu - hyung! I’m at a classmate’s hou - what? Hyung calm down! Talk slower, I can’t - ” Changmin gasped, and to Yunho, it looked like he almost choked on his own spit. “Alright, okay. I’ll come home right now. I’ll call Junsu and let him know. It’ll be okay, Jaejoong. Just wait for us.” Changmin shut his phone, and gave Yunho a quick bow.
“I’m sorry Yunho, but I have to take an early leave. I haven’t got much time to explain but I promise I’ll give you an explanation first thing tomorrow! I’m sorry!”
“Huh?! Min -” He bowed quickly once more, and before Yunho could say anything else, Changmin was already running out the door with his cell phone at his ear.

“Yoochun, I’ve spoken with the director, and he gives the O.K. on the surgery given for patient 261,” Junsu said, handing the clipboard over to Yoochun.
“Ah, thanks Junsu,” Yoochun smiled, taking the clipboard as he looked over the patient’s files. “Eh...out of curiosity, why do you still call him director when you know very well who he is?”
“I know you and your father have some rocky history, and you always look uncomfortable when I call him your dad,” Junsu smiled nervously, fidgeting a little on the spot. “Do you wish for me to address him as your father?” He asked rather quickly, suddenly realizing that he was asking an obvious question.
“Nah,” The older man chuckled, patting Junsu on the shoulder. “I’ll go tell the patient the good news. “You’re coming right?”
“Of course,” Junsu nodded. “I’m glad he didn’t object. This man’s family cares immensely for him.”
“I’m glad you’ve become used to it, though. I know it must be hard to see families being turned away. But at least you do your best to help them any way you can,” Yoochun said, sending Junsu a soft smile. “I’m proud of you, you know?”
“I-It’s nothing! It’s the least I could do! I can never just stand by and let a patient go just because they’re unfortunate financially. It has just made me realize that I could be any one of these people. Jaejoong, Changmin and I barely get by, but I often think about what would happen if anything drastic would happen to us. What would happen then? I mean with the little colds and flu, Jaejoong can handle, but what happens if we break an arm? Leg? Spine? What if we have a serious and life threatening disease? Our adoptive parents aren’t the richest people in the world either. What if we come across a situation that Jaejoong hyung can’t handle? I guess that’s why he’s so protective of us...? That’s why...that’s why I want to do my best to help. I want to help with rent and I want to make Jaejoong’s life much easier. If only he’d just let me...”
Yoochun watched Junsu from the door, his fingers subconsciously gripped onto the clipboard tighter as he dug through the thoughts in his mind for something to say. He knew of Junsu’s situation and their living style. They’ve grown close within the few weeks that they’ve known each other and after seeing their lifestyle, he wanted to help as well. He had offered Junsu the job of working at the front desk with the other nurses and workers, and he saw to it that Junsu would help him with his other tasks around the hospital. Junsu did a terrific job and worked alongside him at times to make sure everything was in order. Even if Junsu wasn’t a professional, he sure acted like he was.
“Junsu -” Yoochun spoke softly, looking up to catch the younger man’s attention. Right when Junsu looked up, his phone vibrated suddenly, causing Junsu the jump.
“I’m sorry, Yoochun,” Junsu muttered, fumbling in his pocket for his cell phone. “I’ll be sure to tell them I’m busy and - eh?” His eyebrows furrowed, his face looked troubled.
“What is it?”
“It’s Min. I wonder why he would be calling me. He knows I’m working right now,” Junsu said worriedly, looking up at Yoochun as he squeezed the phone tighter in his hand.
“You’ll never know until you answer it,” Yoochun responded, nodding, giving him permission to answer the call.
“Alright, I’m sorry,” Junsu said as he slid his phone open. “Hey, Min. What’s up? You know I’m working right now,” He turned around, and Yoochun took that sign as some privacy. Junsu noticed the raven haired man exiting the room and he craned his sore neck in attempt to relieve the pain from the day’s work. “What? O-Oh no....you’re kidding. Now?! But I -Yoochun - He - !” With a wince and a sigh from the sound of Changmin’s frustrated voice told him he had no choice but to follow his brother’s orders. “Alright. I’ll tell him. I’ll be there right away.”
With a quick flick of his wrists, he snapped his phone shut and rushed out the door. He was startled for a moment when he felt Yoochun’s hand shoot out to gently grasp his shoulder. Whirling around in panic then relief, Junsu suddenly started to panic once more and fear that Yoochun might not let him leave.
“What’s wrong?” Yoochun’s voice seemed worried, and Junsu felt that spark of hope that his boss would approve of his early dismissal.
“I can’t really go into detail right now, but Jaejoong and Changmin really need me right now. I have to leave but I promise I’ll fill you in on the details later?” Junsu pleaded, not noticing how he was backing away from the man as he spoke.
“Yes, but is everything okay?” Yoochun’s eyebrows raised in curiosity as he was inching forward himself. “Do you need me to come with you?”
“No! It’s okay! I really have to head home now but I’ll see you later Yoochun!”
With that said, Junsu quickly made his way quickly down the glossy floor of the halls and he soon found himself half running down the hall towards the elevators. There were moments where he accidently bumped into some of the nurses, heck even jostled them, but the determined part of his mind had dominated the right sense of his mind and he ignored the glares they shot towards his back. One thing Junsu knew for sure. His family needed him now; all he hoped now was that they’d get through this like the times they’ve gotten through everything else. Together.

”What are we going to do?!” Jaejoong asked in frustration, his hands shaking as he pounded his fists against the table with his head dipped down; his gaze practically burning holes into the ground. For the first time in his life, he was afraid. He was afraid of what was to happen to his brothers. He needed to find a real job, but what good paying job didn't require someone without work experience?
“I refuse. I refuse to bring you two down along with me. You’re going back to live with our parents,” Jaejoong let out a shaky sigh, pen poised above the checkbook.
“We’re not going anywhere, hyung.” Changmin frowned, slamming the palm of his hands firmly against the dining table. “You told us we were going to stick together no matter what. WHY the fuck are you turning your back on us now, huh?!”
“Why don’t you just mind your fucking business, Yunho?! Stop pretending like you care for someone other than yourself,” Jaejoong scoffed angrily, shoving Yunho sharply aside with his elbow.
“Why do you always make people out to be who you want them to be? What makes you think I’m the kind of person you say I am? I’m trying to help you! Why the hell won’t you just let me?!” The older man exclaimed, shooting out an arm to drag Jaejoong back.
“Then find someone else who actually wants your pity.”
“This isn’t fair to Junsu and Min.”
“I will decide what is fair for my brothers,” Jaejoong seethed in return, jerking Yunho’s arm off before stalking his way past the double doors to the exit. Yunho growled angrily before landing a hard smash against the door with his fist.
