Team TARDIS

This summer some of my friends and I got into the habit of getting together to watch Doctor Who. And when it ended for the mid-season break, we just kind of kept going, because two or three of the pseudo-regulars actually have never watched Doctor Who in any systematic sort of way, so we’ve been trying to catch them up on important things like, you know, who the heck is this “River” women, and why is everyone so excited about her name...?

So for the last while we’ve been gathering once per week to re-watch the River episodes. And then when we ran out of River episodes we started just re-watching whatever caught our collective attention. And oh my god, re-watching with other people in the room reminds me that I have all of the ~feelings~ about Doctor Who, far more so than just watching it on my own. There’s always this element of, what if they don’t like it, what if they don’t understand just how incredibly amazing the thing they just saw is, and I sort of start building up my defense of the show in my head and work myself into this fannish froth with all of the love, OMG. Especially wrt Rory. Oh, Rory. <3

Last night we re-watched Human Nature/Family of Blood, which tragically lacked Rory, but did leave me REALLY wanting a Team TARDIS consisting of Martha and Nurse Redfern. Doin' stuff. Bein' badass. Has anyone else noticed that this is the episode where John Smith is just a giant dork the whole time, and the ladies in his life just sort of bemusedly point him in the right directions? "God, you're rubbish as a human," as I believe Martha says. Oh, Martha. THE SHIT YOU PUT UP WITH FOR THIS MAN. Also, Joan basically orchestrates that ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP, guys. And obviously he would never have opened the watch if not for her! Of course, part of Joan's inherent badassery derived from her saying no to travelling with the Doctor,so it's a nice but impossible dream. STILL. Best team ever. Also, Rory can come too, as the world can always use more Rory. We'll call it Team Badass Medical Professionals In Space. (TBMPIS, I guess?)

I also want, and have long wanted, an entirely unrelated Team Tardis that's River Song and Jack Harkness. Amy can come play too. We'll call it... Team Snarky Kickass People In Space, Having Lots Of Sex. (TSKPISHLOS, which works even worse than the last acronym.) It would be WONDERFUL. crossposted from Dreamwidth |
