"Tetsu....I'm pregnant."
Even now, months later, the words still echoed in Tetsu's ears. He still couldn't believe that it was true. They had only been married for a few months when she murmured those words to him when he came back to their home from the DekaBase. She was practically glowing as she spoke. He should have seen it coming.
It was the best piece of news he'd heard in a long long time.
He and Jasmine were going to be parents.
Six months into the pregnancy, they found something even more unexpected out:Jasmine was pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl.
She and the doctor had to pratically tie Tetsu down to keep him from running out into the streets of Tokyo, screaming the news.
The next two months were a whirlwind of baby showers, shopping, general world saving, classes for childbirth, and seemingly endless mood swings from Jasmine. Her ESPer powers were acting all wonky and she was constantly tired and grumpy.
Tetsu did his very best to cope with it and make her as happy as he could.
Jasmine was 8 months pregnant now and she spent most of her time in the bedroom they fixed up for their twins, sitting in a rocking chair between the two cradles, singing softly to herself.
That was were Tetsu found her one afternoon when he came home from work. Boss had cut his time somewhat so just in case Jasmine went into labor early.
Well, he'd really found the sound of Jasmine singing a song to herself.
"Holy holy night, Holy holy light
Sora no ai wa
Kimi dake wo shinji
Inoru koto tada inoru koto
Soshite kimi wa umareta
Tooku hoshi wa matataku
Hikari no yukue
Shirube wo motomete
Holy holy night, Holy holy light
Sora no negai
Kimi dake wo mitsume
Mamoru koto tada mamoru koto
Itsu ka kimi ga naite mo
Towa ni koko ni iru kara
Kokoro no izumi ni
Nozomi wo tataete
Holy holy night, Holy holy light
Hajimaru uta
Kimi dake wo shinji
Inoru kara tada inoru kara
Holy holy night, Holy holy light
Sora no ai wa
Kimi dake wo shinji
Inoru koto tada inoru ko"
Tetsu peeked into the room and found Jasmine sitting in her usual spot, in the rocking chair by the window, half asleep and singing, her hand curled over the swell of her stomach.
"Marika-ko?" he asked, softly.
Jasmine's right eye opened and she sat up more. "You're back, Tetsu." she said, idly running her hand over her stomach. "You're early."
"How are you feeling?" he asked, careful in how he worded his words. The slightest things caused Jasmine to go off like a time bomb.
"Crappy." she said as Tetsu came over, knelt beside her and rested his ear against the Jasmine's bulging stomach, smiling endearingly up at her. Suddenly one of the twins kicked and he smiled.
Jasmine smiled a half smile and ran her fingers through his dark hair. She still wore her gloves sometimes, claiming that she didn't want to hear her children's thoughts.
"That was a lovely song you were singing." Tetsu murmured. "Where did you hear it from?"
"Urara-chan taught it to me." Jasmine said. "It's called 'Peace In The Heavens'. Isn't it nice? It's like a lullaby."
"Are you sure you are well, Jasmine?" Tetsu asked. "You seem so sad and depressed lately. I thought impending parenthood was supposed to be a blessed event."
"I'm afraid that I will become my own parents...that our twins will inherit my powers and I will reject them the way mine did me."
Tetsu looked into Jasmine's dark eyes and then clasped her hand, kneeling next to her. "Jasmine, your ESPer powers are part of the reason I love you so much. They make you, well, you. I would be very proud to have a child who inherited your ESPer powers."
Jasmine's eyes widened, then they softened and then her face warmed. "Oh, Tekkan-chan." She smiled and placed a kiss on his forehead. "Thank you."
Tetsu's mind flashed back to the Tokkyou Ball, the last time she said those words to him.
"For what?" he asked, softly.
"For loving me." She said.
