Personal Goal: Lose 30 lbs

I’m writing all of this on my blog, in hopes that it will inspire me to continue to reach for my goal of losing 30 lbs and becoming a healthier person. I know that so many people out there are also fighting for the same goal, so perhaps we can help each other. (I know right now, I could use a bit of support. I’m freaking out a little bit.)

It’s strange because I’ve never had weight problem until after I turned 25. I wasn’t always ‘battling the bulge’ and for the most part, I’ve been really healthy. (In all honesty, I’d always been a bit of a stick figure… wanting more curves.) Slowly, I started to gain the curves I was craving, but it didn’t stop!

I pin-point my problem to the fact that I live alone for the first time in my life. When I lived with my family, my meals were planned and shared; now, I have no energy to cook for only one person - myself. I got lazy. So, what do I do? I eat the awful pre-packaged meals that are now literally EVERYWHERE! You can’t walk into a store without pre-packaged cookies, chocolate, ‘gourmet’ meals, and tv dinners filling up entire aisles. When did we, as a society, need an entire aisle of cookies?

Suddenly, I’m at the doctor and staring at my weight with horror. I have hit the highest weight that I have ever been in my life. And not only that, but my doc tells me that my blood sugar is high. I almost passed out hearing that. She tells me that I have six months to lower my weight and my blood sugar or I have to start on diabetes medication!

Since I heard the results, I’ve dumped out everything in my pantry and fridge. I took all of the junk food to work and put it on the table to give away. I was so embarrassed that I didn’t tell anyone that the food was from me. I filled an entire conference table with junk food and watched as an entire company shared the food that I had been eating by myself for months. I had so much, I could’ve fed a small army. Shameful.

BUT, I’ve started to lose weight by eating healthy and started tracking all of the nutrients that I put in my mouth. It’s really hard! I had no idea about the amount of sugar in foods that I ate every-day! I bet no one realizes that there is 22G of sugar in orange juice.

I even put this little tracker from myfitnesspal on my site to inspire myself to hit the green color. I use that cell phone app to track every meal that I eat. Today is especially hard; not sure why, probably because its Sunday and there is nothing to do. All I want to do is eat and snack.

Thankfully, I’ve got two friends that recommended a couple of tricks: so, when I want a snack I drink a cup of herbal tea. (Drinking tea now.)

Well, that’s my story. Please share yours. I’d love to know how everyone is doing on their diets. I really hope that someone can help me keep this up or I’m doomed.
