No warm regards!
No Christmas cards!
And every day
Was Hell on Earth Day!

I missed my prom!
My dad and mom
Sent me away!
It was my birthday!

--Shrek the Musical, I Think I Got You Beat

The cake was cute. Small and white with blue trim. Souji stared at it for a few long moments, his hands dangling between his knees. The urge was strong, and eventually he gave in, reaching out and dragging one long finger through the icing, popping it in his mouth. He looked around guiltily, least his parents somehow popped in and saw him defacing the treat. His mother would out right faint!

The cake had been a gift from the two. Christmas Eve was a romantic holiday, so they had gone out. But they had bought their son a cake in a moment of misplaced affection. There was nothing sadder then eating cake alone.

He wasn’t used to this. Even before Inaba he never spent Christmas alone. There was always some cute girl to feed cake and maybe earn a kiss. And last year… there was that special night in his Uncle’s home, soft flesh and comfort after their battle against Adachi.

Going back to Tokyo had been so cold after that.

He pondered going out, walking the streets and looking at all the decorations… anything was better then sitting around and rotting his teeth.

The beep-beep of his phone stopped him just in time.

-hey partner!

Srry this is kinda late, but happy xmas! You srsly need to come visit soon man… things r boring as heck with u gone!

Yosuke-

And that was just the first. Beep after beep rang through his phone, and by midnight the cake was gone and Souji was in bed, texting people miles and miles away, and not feeling alone at all.

New prompt!

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. --Carl Jung

If she were honest with herself, Rikku wouldn't have been the same if she hadn't gone on Yunie's pilgrimage all those years ago.

She never would've met Tidus, and never would've finally gotten the guts to find Yunie and try to talk her out of the craziness.

There's no way she'd've met Lulu, and no way would Rikku have wanted to be like Lulu--all calm and collected--without having met the woman (and, for your information, Rikku was now twenty-three and much calmer than she was back then, so take that, Kimahri and Auron!)

...Heck, she wouldn't have learned what real loyalty and determination was if it wasn't for Auron and Kimahri. Seriously, staying on Besaid for ten years? Fighting back death and going to Zanarkand? Impressive.

If it weren't for the pilgrimage, the only time she would've met Wakka would probably have been at some anti-Al Bhed thing, with them on opposite sides. She never...actually, the only thing Wakka taught her was better blitz moves. And how to be a big, if caring, meanie.

She couldn't forget Yunie, either. Yunie had shown Rikku how to take the rough stuff and keep smiling. (And Rikku, in turn, had taught Yunie how to say 'no' and steal their wallet!)

And then there was the whole Vegnagun thing. If nothing else, that whole incident taught her that A), Paine didn't like people implying she dyed her hair and B), let sleeping machina lie. Oh, and C), Nooj was worse than Auron in the 'no fun' department.

Rikku guessed that, maybe, she'd changed all the people who changed her. Maybe. After all, wasn't it like putting baking soda and vinegar together? You mix two things so different, they both get changed! Right?

Once a year we throw a party here in town
Once a year we turn all Paris upside down
Ev'ry man's a king and ev'ry king's a clown
Once again it's Topsy Turvy Day
It's the day the devil in us gets released
It's the day we mock the prig and shock the priest
Ev'rything is topsy turvy at the Feast of Fools!
