For reasons that are not entirely clear to me, I have become totally obsessed with gardening. I guess it started because the poor state of my front and back yards compared to my neighbors and my inherent lack of willingness to spend money on a professional landscaping company led me to start doing stuff.
I saw a couple of small yews at Costco's which I bought. They were in a big cardboard pot and I thought I would just leave them there on my porch but it dawned upon me that they would look better flanking my main entrance walkway. Having not planted anything of substance in my life, I had to go buy tools, topsoil, mulch and generally figure out how to actually do this. Well...it worked and the rest as they say is history.
Since then I have planted:
a) A row of christmas tree hostas for my shaded driveway
b) Two burning bushes in my front yard
b) An azalea bush which just bloomed and has the most beautiful, most fragrant flowers in an area in the back behind my kitchen
c) Japanese false spireas which have these small snow white blooms off the garage
d) Coleus in my front yard
e) Lavender and pink speedwells gmy main entry walkway
f) Two different cultivars of peonies (red and white)
g) flox in my backyard
h) geraniums
i) Boston ferns in pots on my back patio
j) Asiatic lilies and Daylilies in my front yard
k) Miscellanea whose names I can't remember
I also tilled and prepared the soil for a small veggie garden in the back. I am think of putting in sweet corn, tomatoes, snow peas, green beans (at slavesaoirse's request) and perhaps sunflowers. I am told sunflowers are a pain to grow though.
I SHOULD TAKE PICTURES OF ALL THIS STUFF!! Maybe next time slavesoirse is here.
Any fellow gardeners out there? Any tips on feritilizing and shit? (no pun intended)
