So, as many of you may know, I currently work at Melmark, which is a special school/residential facility for autistic and special needs children. I am a TA (teacher assistant) in classroom 10, and each day my day consists of:
~ Arriving at 7am to go to the houses on campus and work with a child one-on-one (or sometimes with two kids) to wake them up and get them ready to go to school. Depending on the day, I occassionally get this time from 7 to 9 to work on paperwork.
~ At 9am we walk them over to the school.
~ Sometime between 9 and 9:30 I will end up going to my classroom (depending on what child I was working with that morning and what classroom that child needed to be transported to)
~ From approx. 9 to 3 I work in my classroom with a child (or a pair, depending on the day) and work on goals and daily living skills
~ From 3 to 3:30 the 2nd shift staff come to pick up the children and take them to their houses, and then when they are all gone out of the classroom, the other TA's and I do our best to clean up the classroom and get any paperwork done that needs to get done.
~ At 3:30 I leave work and come home.
Well, the current music teacher at our school is having a baby and will be taking a maternity leave soon (when I say "soon", I mean like, at the end of March). And... my boss has asked ME to fill her position while she is gone!!!! *beams* :) :) :) :) :) :)
I am beyond excited!!! Particularly since I've talked to the music teacher about this already and we had both aggreed that it would be wonderful if they would let me fill in for her... so yeah! I'm THRILLED!!!!
I also think that the experience I'm going to gain is going to be incredible... this is DIRECTLY related to my field and major - it's basically music therapy, they just don't call it that because right now they don't have the funding to offer each child "music therapy", so they just do "music lessons" instead. So, I get to do music at work!!!! *beams*
Alright so, I actually have to run to go to work NOW... but, I was just so excited that I had to get that out... so... I'll keep you all posted as to how it's going! Love you all bunches! *hugs!*
