Open Letter to Boston (and beyond)

Apr 16, 2013 11:01

This began as a comment on eearlgreytea68 s journal - many of you will know and love her as the creator of the Chaosverse and more recently, some equally warm, witty and entertaining Sherlock fic.

I think one of the biggest factors behind the very real grief that we Brits are sharing with you is that now one of the few remaining expressions of communal joy, celebration, co-operation, freedom and all that is best in human nature - ie, the marathon - has been sullied. It will never be quite the same, no matter how well you commemorate, rebuild and strive to understand.

We got away with the Olympics last year. But we know how lucky we were to escape. I hope the memories of that better time can help you guys a little now.

From the British press, I think this piece by a runner expresses it better than I could:

I like to think that next year the streets of Boston will be filled with DW fans wearing this T-shirt:

RUN, YOU CLEVER BOYS AND GIRLS. AND REMEMBER (THOSE WE LOST)

terrorism, politics, boston
