Title: Why Nate is Not a Ghost
Characters: JD, illusion!Nate :|
Word Count: 239
Notes: I'm amused because I know this song and yet it became angsty. Idk.

You just come on over here one last time, pucker up, and close your eyes, and kiss this goodbye.

Nate's dead.

JD is not sure how many times people have said that to him in some variation or another. He sits on the other side of their room- his room with his head pressed back against the door, staring wistfully into the room.

Nate walks up to him. He's been in their room all along. Of course.

"Hey," he says and sits next to JD. "What's wrong?"

He looks sideways at him. "People keep saying that you're dead. I don't know why. It's getting weird. You're... not, are you?" A lump builds in his throat, and he turns his head away from Nate. "Cause it would suck if you were cause then you'd never know about me meeting Batman a- a- and everything."

"JD, do I look dead?"

And there's that smile on Nate's face that made JD want to kiss him to begin with. He shakes his head. "No... but you could be a ghost. You're the one who told me that ghosts live here. I've seen them before though they're usually less sexily shaped and don't know how to dance with a partner worth a damn, but-"

Nate snorts. "Could a ghost do this?" He leans forward and kisses him, and it feels almost real.

JD smiles, swallows, and shakes his head. "No. Casper tried but went right through that girl."

"So you see?"

"Yeah," JD says, ignoring the uncertainty in his own voice. "I see."

fiction, nate
