Homare's Christmas Wish
Sometimes you've just got to break the fourth wall.
"Don't sulk so much~" teased half of a pair, as the two of them went back and forth around the little room, setting everything in order. "You're the one that gets a happy ending, after all!"
"I'm not sulking!" retorted the other, with something of a scowling pout nevertheless. "You're gloating!"
"Gloating? Why would I do such a thing? If you feel insecure about our story of forbidden love being that much more tragically romantic...."
"S-sh-shut up! Geez! A couple memes and it all goes to your head!"
"A couple is all I need, kuhihi! They say quality over quantity, you know~"
The smaller man made a strangled noise and started to puff up in preparation to flail, then visibly reined himself back in, though maybe he pulled on his hat with rather more force than was necessary. "N-nevermind, look, we're not here to fight, we're here for him, right? This is about him, not us."
Though he couldn't help but laugh, voice light and merry, the other agreed with a nod as he tied little ribboned sprigs to the ends of his braids. "That's right. An extra special surprise for our extra special lover~!"
"Un!" the first agreed, letting his expression ease as he bent to stoke the fireplace. "And everything's in place? We didn't forget anything?"
"All we need is the guest of honor, kuhi~!"
The invitation, written in two distinct hands, had said only "We'll be waiting for you~" and "We'll see you there."
And for a passing mention, a fleeting fantasy, that was how it came to be that a room was decorated, a fireplace lit, Christmas drinks and snacks set out to enjoy, and a pair of young men in silly santa hats and silly santa suits (though silly might not be how they stayed, depending~) draped across a plush couch to await the arrival of a third.
