Reflections on Shitsuren Chocolatier

Apr 18, 2014 12:03

Writing this after the fact following akamiso's characterization of 'nothing happened' in ep09 of Shitsuren Chocolatier. We’re seeing character development. Souta-kun has evolved from a rather shallow character obsessed with a love fantasy into a complex figure that can realistically analyze his relationships; however he ends up with a ‘I don’t care, I love her’ outlook in justifying his affair with Saeko. And Saeko has changed from an air-head wicked woman into a woman with some good insights into dating relationships but she still remains wicked. Kaoruko has not changed (unfortunately for her) but her comments and fantasies are hilarious. By the way, can anyone identify the short background music clip at 18:38 in Kaoruko’s fantasy? It sounds familiar, but I can’t figure out what it is.

Ep10
All the relationships seem to be moving forward except for the Souta-Saeko one which has taken an ominous giant step backward with both withholding information from the other. But the opening exchange between Kaoruko and Saeko is great. Saeko’s analogies of candies needing to look attractive and the mountain climbing training are insightful and masterful. And Mizukawa-san’s portrayal of Kaoruko should get a comedic award.
