[The scene is a little misplaced, maybe, the steady foreground of a rural bus-stop set against a lucid background. Kuwabara himself is a solid figure among the occasional figment. For the moment, it's snowing, a show of his own sentimentality. He thinks though, for some reason, that he can feel or smell a rain coming ( Read more... )

[Kurama enters from his own dream, a red stain against his white coat where an arrow grazed his shoulder, and a small but valuable necklace clamped in his jaws. He has only two tails, but when he draws even with Kuwabara and drops the necklace in front of the bench, his body changes, filling out to his mature form and gaining another pair of tails.]

I'd better stay as I am. It'll save confusion if any of your acquaintances from school show up to ask about earthquakes.

[With the initial form, it actually takes Kuwabara a moment to recognize the fox. He laughs at the quip, taking the last from the cigarette before dropping it and snuffing it out.]

None of 'em have shown up here, I don't think. Speaking of earthquakes, though... How often d'you think that happens?

How often do I think what happens? I only just got here.

[The fox wrinkles his nose at the smell of the cigarette and sneezes when a bit of the ash catches his nostrils.]

You shouldn't be smoking. You'll ruin your lungs.

Earthquake predictions. Although, I thought I heard...

[Another laugh, and he reaches up to scratch his nose.]

Sure, in the world over there. It's different here, you know, but I can still smell and taste it. I like familiar things, here.

Fair enough.

[Kurama shakes himself, fluffing his fur and freeing it of dust from the various burrows and ditches he's wriggled through during the course of dreams.]

[Kuwabara stands and rolls his shoulders.]

It's getting ready to rain. A lot. I hope that's not a problem.

Why should it be?

[Undisturbed by the vague prophetic announcement--as Kuwabara's go, it's one of the more positive predictions--Kurama hops down from the bench to stand at his friend's feet.]

Perhaps we should find Hiei. He should be here if you're going to announce portents.

[He shrugs for both statements, looking around to see where the road's going to form.]

Do you think he'd care or believe it, either way? But then... Maybe he'll remember if I don't.

You've a better idea of how this works than I do. My abilities in this realm are nonexistent.

[Kurama turns his head and licks a trickle of blood from the wound on his shoulder.]

What happens next?

That's what we've gotta find out, I guess.

[He bends slightly to get a look at the wound, mouth pressed into a line of concern for a moment.]

Is that okay?

Badge of honor. It hardly broke the skin.

[Kurama turs to let Kuwabara have a closer look.]

You see? Besides, my dreams are only dreams.

You're the one who got onto me about smoking, just now.

[He smiles largely and, looking around, pulls an umbrella from behind the bench. He hardly has time to open it before the weather changes. The snowflakes turn steadily into drops of water, and then it's raining. Kuwabara takes a few steps forward and, as they walk, their footsteps cause rumbles and maybe movement of the world around them.]

Fuckin' weather...

[Pity that Kurama' can't roll his eyes at Kuwabara in this form. He settles for nipping his friend in the calf instead, then promptly huddles under the newly opened umbrella to keep his fur dry.]

Is it always like this here?

Like what?

[But then he shrugs. Maybe a dream's a dream, but this one might be a little more unusual than most of them.]

I'm not able to move myself, sometimes, and stuff's just pictures. I usually don't have guests. Well, I mean... I usually don't have guests that aren't just figments or memories or stuff like that.

And this week's been getting weirder and weirder. Maybe something's really gonna happen...

I don't usually visit, but yours must be the third dream I've stumbled across so far.

Is it that kind of day, then?

[There's something just out of his field of vision, and he turns suddenly to look at it. He misses, however, and merely continues onward.]

Maybe that's all it's amounting to. That might be a relief.
