Does a tiny 16-in-1 USB2 card reader REALLY need foam rubber adhesive feet?

First things first...

Happy birthday, World Wide Web: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7373717.stm

I'm wary of becoming misty-eyed in a public (virtual) space, but this is actually a somewhat significant year for my personal relationship with Internet-based technology - at least as far as humankind's ongoing obsession with decimal anniversaries is concerned. So whilst I may well be twisting the cap off a bottle of Jacob's Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2006 later on (the cork must now be viewed as redundant, superseded tech) to toast fifteen years of the WWW, in a month or so - the precise date is currently a little hazy - I might be doing something similar again, to mark a decade of regularly faffing about online (often in less than exalted company) as though cyberspace were some vast, global adventure playground...

Those of you who subscribe to astartesyriaca's posts (and/or haunt the relevant message boards, online communities/hang-outs, etc.) will probably already be aware that I've been road-testing some funky new kit for the past week (specifically the Asus EEE PC), and re-invigorating my allegedly geeky credentials by getting down 'n' dirty with Linux once again, after being a Micro$oft Windows slave for far too long. So much has already been enthusiastically written, screencapped, shouted, and uploaded to YouTube about this mini marvel of a laptop that it seems pointless to add to it all, frankly, so I won't bother. At least, not here...

There are some "issues" and quirks relating to minor, tangential aspects of the interface, and the slightly weird joy to be derived from plugging long-abandoned USB peripheral devices into the thing, which may surface elsewhere. However, goofing off about fifteen flavours of MPEG-encoded files discovered on old Compact Flash memory cards which hadn't seen the light of day since I used to wave my (relatively) ancient HP Pocket PC about down the pub probably represents blog content for the seriously life-retarded. You won't want to go there, and I certainly don't. Well, not until after the fourth glass, anyway...

Have a good (Bank holiday for UK bods) weekend, everyone.
