As a web developer, I can't tell you how hard it is to get through a client's skull that ANYONE may use the website, so you have to accomodate many kinds of people. They're locked in thier own world, though, so unless customers yell at them to change, they won't.

And as someone who has worked with NGOs and such, I know the ones who survive are the ones who keep their houses in order, including their websites. Site makeovers aren't always necessary, as long as the content remains current. The ones who don't, well, they're either involved in something that doesn't allow for or require a web presence, or are fast fading into irrelevance.
I take my job seriously, that's why I get pissed off when developers make stupid decisions like this.

how about the race choices? or sex? or marital status? it will be quite a looooong time before registration forms, applications, surveys, etc. catch up with the world.
