For some reason, I'm absolutely obsessed with LGBT in the media. Not entirely sure why, but once again I was unable to take the Gay and Lesbian Literature class that my college offers, so I guess I'm compensating by tracking down my own books and TV shows.
I'm currently reading Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden. Don't know if I like it yet. Not that it's bad at all, I just haven't had time to get into the story yet. Also trying out Torchwood because I've heard some decent things about it and one of the main characters is gay (or, I think I read that his preferred label is pansexual); went through the 1st episode and I'm enjoying it so far.
Anyway, I found a list of YA fiction with lesbians as the protagonists and a few caught my eye. So, I'm making a bit of a reading list. Not trying to finish them by any particular time or in any particular order, but I'm just keeping them in mind. Open to recommendations.
Ash by Malinda Lo, which is apparently a fantasy LGBT novel that's Cinderella-esque story that's "somber and lovely", according to The New York Times.
Empress of the World by Sara Ryan about a girl that attends a summer camp for gifted children and falls in love with a girl.
Finding H.F. by Julia Watts. From what I understand, it's about a girl (H.F.) that lives in the Deep South with her deeply conservative grandmother and her best friend is an effeminate gay boy named Bo. At some point, H.F. has sex with another girl and, thanks to a few other stressors, H.F. and Bo decide to road trip.
Tomorrow Wendy: A Love Story by Shelly Stoehr. Not too sure what it's about but apparently the main character has an imaginary friend or something.
On an unrelated note:
I'm rewatching Baccano! which makes much more sense a second time around. Also, I think that Czes has replaced Firo's Hat as my favorite. Durarara!! is getting more intense, too. And the way the story is building, I think Kida might replace Izaya as my favorite next episode (but Izaya will still be my second favorite).
Also, FMA: Brotherhood is getting uncomfortably close to where the manga is. The manga IS almost finished (you can definitely tell), but the pace that the anime is moving at, it's going to catch up before the manga finishes. Makes me wonder what they're going to do. Either they'll have to make up an ending, which I'm sure will be satisfactory, but the point of Brotherhood was to be loyal to the manga, which they've done pretty well, with some exceptions. The only other option I can imagine is that they'll get to about where the manga is now and end the series on the cliffhanger. Then wait for the manga to finish and make a movie.
