I am so glad no one I know was working yesterday, and in any case we've told our scientific aides not to use the 710 Freeway to get to the docks. That massive pile-up was just north of where they would've driven anyway, but jeez.... When I heard about the accident(s) on the radio and heard "fog," I thought it was in the Central Valley, where massive chain reaction accidents caused by the Tule fog are not uncommon this time of year. I didn't realize this was on a freeway I often use. I heard people saying they were driving 60-80 mph, when the visibility was only 80 ft.! What in hell were they thinking?! We have any kind of weather here, and people completely forget how to drive! It's amazing no one was killed, although 9 people are in critical condition. I hope they recuperate.
