The mural, one of a number mounted on the walls of the civic center, came from a former shopping center across the street that had a seabird theme and won awards for education and architechture. Unfortunately, education and architechture do not always make good business sense and the place hemorrhaged money for years before it was finally torn down and rebuilt into the mudane, more traditional strip mall it is now. This mural was supposed to depict how different seabirds next in different habitats (you can see the silohuettes of birds in the tree). Angus likes to run his hands over the bumpy eggs.
The City Hall building has been undergoing a seismic retrofit for the last couple of months. Two other murals (one on the building column and another on the facing wall) and the pelican sculptures are also from the defunct shopping center. There are a number of others as well - that would make a whole other photo essay, I'm thinkin'.
