Huntington Beach High School - 1980

(tagged by Andy at FB, but it's just easier to write out in Semagic for LJ and goes there anyway...)

Fill this out about your SENIOR year of high school! The longer ago it was, the more fun the answers will be!! FORWARD with name of high school and graduating year in the subject box. Send this to all your friends, but don't forget to send it back to me.

1. Did you date someone from your school? yes, for a short time.  He was really the only "boyfriend" I had in high school.  Last I heard, he's a lawyer for the EPA now.

2. Did you marry someone from your high school? no

3. Did you car pool to school? No, I walked.  I only lived a block away from school.  I actually still live there (after going away and coming back a few times).

4. What kind of car did you have? I learned to drive on an early 60's Ford Falcon station wagon.  It was still my parent's, though.

5. What kind of car do you have now? We have a Kia Sedona.

6. It is Friday night. where are you now? Probably hanging out with the kids, watching Avatar: The Last Airbender

7. It was Friday night then...going roller-skating or miniature golfing with Beth and my brother?  I know we didn't do that every weekend, but my memory is lapsing. I didn't really have a regular thing.  I probably babysat a lot on weekend nights as well.

8. What kind of job did you have in high school? I babysat for a number of families; I think they passed my name around because I was cheaper than everyone else.  I also cleaned house for a lady on Saturdays - I tried to save most of this for the band's trip to Hawaii.

9. What kind of job do you do now? I'm a marine biologist for the governator.

10. What do you wish you had done in HS that you didn't do? I'm not sure I would have done much differently.  Maybe learned to move on a litle faster from various crushes I developed...

11. Were you considered a flirt? I wouldn't have known how to flirt if you dropped a house-sized flirt boulder on me.  I was fairly socially inept at that point.

12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? I was in Marching Band all four years.  I played alto sax, second chair.

13. Were you a nerd? Definitely.  I was one of the few girls in the Science Fiction Cluib.  It's where I knew the person who tagged me for this from (thanks Andy).

14. Did you get suspended or expelled? No.  I was pretty much a rule-follower.

15. Can you sing the school song? Yes - since being in band required attending all the football games, and our team never won the entire four years I was there, we changed all the words to it.

Hail, hail to Huntington
Thy pillars noble and strong
Like Spires that rise
To vaulted skies
We raise our loyal song
Ne'er can thy spririt die
Nor ever can thy walls decay
So give a hail, hail to Huntington
Thy glory shall not fade away We lost another one
Another game we lost tonight
Because our team
It really stinks
I don't think they know what a ball looks like
Yes, and they are so bad
They haven't won one all this year
So wish good luck, good luck to our team
They need it just to raise a cheer
16. Who was/were your favorite teacher? Ms. Nedoff (English and advisor to SF club), Mr Walder (biology), Mr. Huff (Oceanography), Frau Fonseca (German), I would say Father Aase - I respected him, but I was just too awkward to do well in Model United Nations, so he really didn't know me that well.

17. Where did you sit during lunch? In front of the auditorium, or the steps near the amphitheater.  Ms. Nedoff's room during SF meetngs.  Often by myself if I was in the middle of a book (which was a lot).

18. What sports did you play or what clubs were you in? Science Fiction, German club. I liked softball, but was never on any sports teams (band was my P.E.)

19. When did you graduate? 1980, on the Football Field, I was in band, so we had to sit there and play Pomp and Circumstance over and over while everyone else walked across the stage.  My friend Anne gave the Valdectorian speech, I was proud of her but we were growing apart by that time.

20. What was your school mascot? Bardahl, who looked like the Tin Man, but was supposed to be an oil can (we were the Oilers - Huntington Beach being founded on drilling for oil).

21. If you could go back and do it again, would you? I don't think so, There were fun times, but there were a lot of painful times, too.  I'm not regretting it, but once is enough.

22. Did you have fun at Prom? I didn't ever go to the prom.  My "boyfriend" supposedly didn't think I wanted to go, and made other plans.

23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with? Didn't go.

24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? Depends where it is and if I can afford to.  I couldn't afford my 20th, it was at the Queen Mary and they wanted $80/person.  Too much for a paycheck to paycheck type person, even though I wouldn't have had to travel far.

25. Do you still talk to people from school? I get a holiday letter every year from Anne, and Mike D. and I talk on the phone every once in awhile.

26. What are/were your school's colors? Orange and Black - yep, drive or walk past the school every day, so it's hard to forget.
