Wow. A storm that actually serious about dropping some rain on us. Good, 'cuz we can use it - I saw something in the paper the other day about Californians (at least souther Californians) needing to take water conservation more seriously. Well, I can use that as an excuse for not having anything growing in my yard right now - although I do want to get some xeriphytic/native plants going.
Avalon was invited to a birthday party earlier this week - when I opened the invite, my jaw dropped. They are taking all the girls invited to
this place in Tustin, where all the little girls will have their hair styled and nails done, get to dress up, and then have cake and ice cream. That's ok, I guess, but they are also picking up each girl invited at their home in a freaking limo!! Tustin is about a half an hour's drive away. I'm just wondering how many girls are invited? I asked Avalon if this is someone she regularly plays with, and she replied, "Oh no, I never play with her." Is this one of those families where they are inviting the entire class, whether the kid really knows them or not?
I loved birthday parties and going to them when I was a kid. The only time I remember going somewhere though, was one time a bunch of us went rollerskating, and three or four friends went with me to the Alligator Farm. Usually no more than would fit in my parents station wagon. I just hope my kids aren't going to be disappointed that they don't get similar parties to the above from us. I spent more on Angus's party than I really planned and that was just a pinata and cake and ice cream in the park.
John says we are getting a reputation for giving gift cards for books. The parents like it, but he thinks they are getting fewer invitations from kids because of it. Well, if the only reason they're getting invited is because of what type of present they're bringing, then they don't need to be going to that party. >:p
