Ow, ow, ow, this thrush is killing me - it doesn't seem to bother Avalon at all.

I goofed several times at work today. T. was only going to be in in the morning, so I told D. and C. to just bring in the squid samples when they were finished instead of sending him out to get it. My reasoning was that he wouldn't have time to process it anyway. It turned out that D. and C. didn't get back until they were off, so the squid were out there with them all day. Luckily the weather is cold so they were still in pretty good shape. I did them since V. did two samples earlier this week. She was kind enough to set everything up for me, though. I got though the first sample well enough, although with approaching middle age I need the magnifier to get the statoliths out. These tiny objects, located under the squids eyes, are barely bigger than a grain of sand. I can only see them because they are bright white against the translucent squid flesh. I rushed to finish the second sample, weighing and measuring and checking gonad maturity, and then getting all the statoliths out and set in their tray, waiting to be put in their capsules for storage until their ages can be read. I thought John was waiting impatiently to pick me up outside, so I thought I would set the dirty pans in the sink to soak and put the squid carcasses down the disposer before I took care of the stats. And then I just kept going, scrubbing and cleaning, trying to get out of there. I scrubbed the pans, and wiped the table down, then grabbed the remaning tray and began scrubbing it as well. As it got soapy and the foam dripped into the sink, I was horrified to realize I HAD NEVER PUT THE DAMN STATOLITHS IN THE CAPSULES! I had just scrubbed them off into the sink!

I got my monthly pay stub yesterday. Maternity leave three times plus family sick days (rarely for myself) have left me with an entire 2 days of sick leave. I'd better not get the flu.
