I had meant to update this immediately after I finished playing Final Fantasy VI, but, alas, I did not. I like the bullets I have used for the past few entries, as they offer some semblance of order to what would otherwise be stream of conscious ramblings/tangents.
*I am currently reading The Dancing Wu Li Masters. Jerin and Ashique had urged me to read it toward the start of 11th grade, but I could do little more than continually move it, rung after rung, down my priority ladder until it almost dropped off the ladder itself. I snagged it before that happened, and I'm glad I did, as the book is extremely interesting. The notion that reality is nothing more than a web of patterns and interactions which are responsible for the existence of each thread and spindle is both comforting and discomforting (or maybe just to me). After this book I'll have The Catcher in the Rye, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, (hopefully) The Brothers Karamazov, stories from The Chronicles of Narnia, several Sherlock Holmes stories, and others. Perhaps. I think my eyes are too big for my stomach.
*I am currently shirtless and watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The former sentence has two purposes. The first is to illustrate how comfortable wearing just athletic shorts is, and the second is that I am waiting for Neon Genesis Evangelion, which I have found to be both a surreal and stimulating experience. The religious overtures remind me of those in Xenogears, and I've long heard of the alleged similarities between the two. The evidence is compelling, I guess, but the two remain separate entities that are respectable in their own rights. I think Xenogears wins out for me, if not only for Citan/Hyuga. He has to be one of the best videogame characters I've encountered.
*To spare myself the trouble of explaining this to people in the future, I am working this summer at a small, family-owned business called Wepayauctions.com, Inc. Some of you may have seen their former offices on Northwest Highway. The business buys estates and then sells the items from the estates on eBay. I step in at this point; I am a "lister." I type up and submit the information that is displayed on the item's eBay web page. The job reminds me of one giant garage sale, as I've written up items from a signed picture of President Gerald R. Ford to Elvis-themed decanters. As I told Phillip, I almost want to subject myself to austere purification rituals upon returning home each day due to the sheer amount of corny and cheesy write ups I routinely have to produce.
This is a prime example. I set my own hours, however, and I can't argue with that, especially with my desire to volunteer at a hospital and trips, such as that to Chicago this coming weekend, that i have planned. It's light years away from Tom Thumb to say the least.
*I bought soccer cleats yesterday for Ultimate frisbee. However, I fear Ultimate may not be the same this summer, as many of the college age players seem to be busy with their own things in their own corners of the world. Not that I don't mind playing with high school students, but the game with students from '08 last Friday was disappointing.
*VIDEOGAME DAY AT LIZ'S HOUSE LAST SATURDAY WAS AWESOME! It was almost two hours in the making, from Radio Shack to calls to Ashique and Michael (until Liz figured out to properly send the signal from the laptop to her TV), but 'twas worth the wait. Bomberman. Yoshi's Island. The Lawnmower Man. Paperboy 2. Where in Time is Carmen San Diego (Danger Cat). It was then over to Liz's aunt's house with Liz and Marissa. I tried cow tongue and found it somewhat crunchy. Experiences like this sometimes wish I had more a pronounced culture to use as a reference stick, but the absence of any one culture is quite nice for the most part.
*I've found increasingly that I feel alone, and I fear increasingly that will always be so. I think for that reason I've withdrawn into books and videogames. Not that that really matters, but it mitigates the situation.
