It was even tinier than the apartment he had in Japan, and a lot more expensive, too, and so Chad was spending some time wondering if it might not have been better to take up a summer ( Read more... )

Because there were new people, and fun things, there was calling Chad. Promises were made!

Well, there was one good thing about a small apartment noticeable right off the bat. When you misplaced your phone, there weren't a lot of places it could go to, so it was a little easier to find.

"Moshi moshi?" he asked when he answered it, still habitual after all these years.

"Chad? It's me!" Dinah kind of assumed he recognized her voice, but said, "Dinah!" anyway. "How is New York City?"

"Oh, hey, Dinah," Chad said, even more surprised because he hadn't expected her to call so soon, but it was definitely a nice surprise. "It's good." He looked around. "Smaller'n I expected. How's camp? It's your first time doing Fandom camp, isn't it?"

"Yup! We're out at the cabins now. And it's not bad. No bug worries, like I thought. And we only have six people in our cabin, and Tony's in with me," Dinah chattered away. She knew Chad. 'Good' was going to require more detail. "Do you have any jobs lined up yet? Where's your apartment?" Slooooowly though.

Chad explained, in general, which district of the city his apartment was in. "So, it's cheaper, but still close enough to all the fashion stuff. I was actually jus' looking through casting call stuff. It's...weird."

"That sounds like a cool place. I hope there's good sushi nearby... Weird how?" Dinah asked, curious.

"I mean...it's not Fandom."

Dinah thought about that a minute, then tentatively said, "No chance of tiny mariachi bands appearing out of nowhere?"

"No," Chad said, "but there is a Peruvian pan flute band that plays at the square down the street."

"Oh, cool," Dinah said, diverted. "Which isn't the same as tininess, or Fandom, but still way awesome. I mean, it's New York, they have songs about it."

"...I should write a song about Fandom," Chad mused.

Because songwriting for him had gone so well in the past...

"You should!" Dinah encouraged him. Because how would she know? "You could have it ready when you start at college, and they can be all impressed with you and your initiative."

"I'm not quite sure that'd impress them that much," Chad admitted, but he was grinning faintly, "but it's an idea, sure."

"Cool." Dinah grinned. "Met any of your neighbors? Or heard from Teddy yet?"

"No, and....no."

Chad was quiet for a moment.

"I'm sure he's really busy. After what happened....he's got a lot to do first."
