Room 312; Sunday Afternoon [ 03/29 ].

Mar 29, 2009 19:44

It was Sunday, so there might have been some sleeping in, which meant there was a little bit of a delay on the lunch for Dinah for the cheerleading auction, but better late than really late! Dinah had mentioned wanting something spicy and maybe Japanese, so Chad thought curry would be a good direction to go. Not really Japanese, but who cared? It ( Read more... )

Dinah got back from going to the library, and put her haul down on her desk, then sniffed the air, gleeful. "Ooooo! Yummy smells!"

"Hopefully yummy tastes, too," Chad said, carefully straightening the chopsticks on one side of the table (there were forks and spoons, too), and then gesturing for Dinah to come join him. The set-up was very fancy; he figured for sixty-five bucks, it better damn well be. "It's all ready."

"It looks amazing too," Dinah told him, slipping out of her shoes, and then carefully folding herself down to sit at the low table, picking up the chopsticks and clicking them together, mouth already watering. "You really went all out."

Camille came out from her napping place, and sniffed at the corner of the table, looking hopeful.

Chad just eyed the sniffing little fuzzball duchess for a moment and warned her, "Curry is not kitty food."

His attention shifted to his...er...roomdate, and managed to not comment about how, at sixty-five bucks...

"Thanks," he said, instead. "I like cooking."

Totally not thinking about the money spent, Dinah waited for him to sit down, and grinned at her cat. "None for you. Tuna later, silly girl."

Silly girl remained unconvinced, staring at the food, tail lashing.

Chad took a seat, still eying Camille before suggesting, "Maybe we should give her a little piece. It's probably spicy enough that one will be enough to convince her to stay clear."

"Yeah, that'll probably work." Dinah folded her napkin into her lap, then flipped a piece of curry to Camille.

The duchess's sneezing after she licked it, and disgusted batting, probably expressed her opinion pretty clearly.

Chad couldn't help the faintest of grins at that. "Good," he nodded. "More for us."

"Yay us!" Dinah lifted up her glass and toasted him. "To a very good cook and roomie." Then took a bite. And sighed happily. "Ohhhh yum." And take a sip of water and a bite of rice, because hot hot hot!

Well, she did say spicy, and Yasutora Sado knew how to deliver spicy.

"It's good then?" he asked, taking a bite of his own.

"Deliiiicious," Dinah told him, taking another sip of her drink. "Just have to eat it slow." Another bite of rice, and settled into a happy, careful pace. "Where did you learn to cook this?"

Chad shrugged a little. "I used to help my dad with cooking sometimes, but that was a long time ago. Once my abuello died, though, I was on my own, so it was either learn to cook or starve."

"When did your grandfather die?" Dinah asked, chopsticking up another bite and slowly chewing. She knew just enough Spanish from first-year high school to recognize family names. And colors. And count! "If that's not too personal."

Chad shook his head. The fact that his abuello had died was no big secret; it would only be asking how that got too personal. "When I was young," he said. "About twelve, I think."

Dinah nodded, thinky. "Mine died a long time ago, before I was born. Alfred's kind of a surrogate grandfather, I think. At least what I imagine one would be like." Another happy bite of curry, and Dinah smiled. "How much did the cheerleaders make total? Enough for a trip somewhere?"

That was quite a shift. Chad, not nearly as mercurial as Dinah, took a moment to catch up. "A lot," he said. "Don't know the exact amount, but, yeah, definitely put us on the mark, I think."
