Ah, reading this entry over, I kind of regret my choices of words. But despite the entry's negative tone, you commented, so I'm glad and thankful for it.
While it is true that, objectively speaking, Detective Conan drama series couldn't be considered awesome, I am sorry if I had given the impression that I didn't think much of it since that is far from the truth. I only mostly listed non-flattering stuff because I prefer that if someone will check the drama out anyway, they will already be aware of and/or be prepared for (some of) its short-comings and hopefully don't hold me responsible if they don't like it.
Actually, not being familiar with the source material might be a good thing. Some fans (I'm in that group sometimes) have too much expectations and/or biases so they can't really enjoy other adaptations of their favorite series. And I think that applies to DC as well as anything else.
So, let me try this again. If someone doesn't mind a campy murder mystery show that isn't too realistic and/or disturbing, well, I think DC live action drama delivers aplenty. And the acting from the main cast seem pretty decent and in character for the most part (even though the in character-ness wouldn't be a concern with people who are not familiar with the series). (Although the acting from the guest actors seem to vary a lot in quality.) And if they don't feel like continuing after episode 1, all they would have lost is 30 minutes of their time.
tl;dr I actually am not trying to convince you or not convince you to watch the drama. If you had simply said that murder mystery is not for you (without mentioning my apparent opinion on it), I would have agreed without bothering with all the texts above. I guess I simply don't want to influence anyone, although I realize it's not possible to be completely objective in what I write.
I'm not entirely sure. In real life (at least at where I live), whether someone can be free to express negative thoughts or not pretty much depends on the situation and the person(s) they talk to. But, in general, I usually try to avoid saying negative things in public (and/or saying something outside of the norm -- I don't want to be seen as difficult/non-conforming), so I suppose that gets carried over to my writing on LJ.
I just want to be clear that I do like this drama series, now that I've finished it. As for negative reviews, I just prefer not to write about series I don't like since doing that depresses me. I would rather spend my energy on positive things. (And if I can help it, I would rather not be negative about other f-list people's favorite series.) And I guess you're right. Moreover, most people (if they are anything like me who need second and third opinions) probably are not going to just rely on my entries whether to watch something or not.
Well, I've watched way more anime than live action in the past year or so, so I guess I sort of feel similarly about anime/manga being more interesting in general...
Well, I guess if it's something you usually do, then you don't really notice it, but it really seems to me that you are trying too hard to be positive XD But if writing about negative things depresses you, I guess it makes sense not to :)
I don't know, somehow anime characters seem more realistic than live-action characters to me... Maybe it's because acting conventions are different in Japanese traditions, or maybe I'm just used to anime more. But anyhow, as long as there is something interesting, be it anime or live-action, life is good :)
I think I'm more trying to be polite than positive, actually. But, yes, basically it is me not being too comfortable with talking about negative things...
Sometimes, I feel like shouting that (almost) no one in real life talks or acts in the exaggerated way some characters do, even though I believe that's probably how they do things in Japan. To be fair, though, there are limits to what live-action series can do (something are simply physically impossible to film in real life), and, yes, those limits include how they deal with the characters. On the other hand, anime can do anything the artists can draw, so it doesn't seem as fake to me (even though anime is not real -- not sure if this makes sense). And, for some reason, I enjoy most of the voices I hear in anime (not having a pressure to also act might be one of the reasons voice actors (usually) can give excellent performances).
I think that's a very good point - anime has no limits, and that's why it is believable, everything that happens in the anime makes sense in-universe. But with live-action, they can't do absolutely everything, and it's exactly those things that they can't do that attract attention, stand out and look fake, making a bad impression.

It's ok not to like things, and it's ok to write bad reviews about things, you know ;D And nobody would blame you if they tried and didn't like it.
I personally will not try it also because I have lost interest about things with 3D people in them, anime and manga are so much more interesting XD
