Oh, Ernie.

I just received this gem from the desk of our illustrious (and fully functioning) principal, Ernest W. Fisher.

"Dear Katherine:

Although I only saw the Saturday night presentation of Guys and Dolls, I spoke to many people who saw the first two nights and all agreed that the production was well done and very enjoyable. All your time and effort and hard work paid off in an outstanding production. You ought to be very proud of what you contributed to the play (oh, I most certainly am). Although our Guys and Dolls has dissolved into the air, it shall long be remembered as a play that made PLHS proud. Congratulations for a job well done.

Sincerely,
Ernest W. Fisher
Principal"

Now, this letter made me pause and think for a moment...WAS I in this year's Spring Musical? Because sometimes I fade in and out of consciousness, and there is a slight possibility that I had been attending practices for several months, and I simply do not remember it. I mean, I recall sitting in the audience on Thursday night, watching the entire production unfold...but MAYBE I was actually supposed to be a part of the stage crew. Perhaps I was needed backstage. Perhaps I just wasn't doing my job.

More likely, however, is that since he saw all of you (save Brenna) up there, he just automatically assumed that I must have been up there too. Since, you know, we all look the same (even though we don't), and sound the same, and are associated with each other in a way perhaps unprecidented in Pompton Lakes High School, he just KNEW that if there was a Koonce, and there was an Ulrich, and an Infield, and sure what the heck, a Nicholas, there MUST be a Gano, and a Rabel. Yeah Bren, your congratulatory letter is in the mail. Ern told me.

I just think that's so funny. I mean...why?? It's not like I was on Coopersmith's cast list or anything, because she doesn't even know my name. Ernie came up with this one aaaaall on his own. And THAT is what kills me. Especially since I have never, EVER, been part of any Spring Musical, in all four years of high school...well, unless you count spotlighting, two years ago. Alright Kermit. I guess you were just confused. Because come to think of it, I never did get a letter for my hard work on the Wizard of Oz...
