So, I really like this episode. I think I say that every week but it doesn't make it any less true. I LOVED the flashbacks, LOVED LOVED LOVED. Drunk!angstfilled!desperate!Sam trying to trade places with Dean, oh yes! The scene with the cross roads demon was brilliant. OH SAMMY. OH THE MANPAIN. LOVED.
My favourite scene by far was the boys tending their wounds in the motel room. Is it just me or is Sam stitching himself up really hot? Mmm bloody boys and dislocated shoulders and alcohol.
Now let's just get this out of the way. Sam and Ruby fucked. I assume people are wanking over this but whatever. Show went there. And they dealt with the rape issue by putting Ruby in a dead body. I suppose you could even go so far as to say that she wasn't technically dead but that would ruin my fun. This way I get to go LOL Necrophilia! Yes, I find it hilarious, shut up. My sense of humour is a little bit twisted. I actually kind of liked the sex scene. I have a bit of a thing for desperate grief sex. Especially if it's with some one who it's a really bad idea to be fucking. No, I don't think that Sam was doing the right thing having sex with Ruby, but I also don't think that the show wants us to think that. He made bad call because he is human and flawed and in a completly fucked up place. It's all about how incredibly MESSED UP Sam was and then along comes Ruby, giving him an outlet, a reason. The sex could be seen as a metaphor really, it's full of desperation and anger and it's Sam taking back control over something, taking a step forward (whether it's in the right direction or not) when he's just been stagnent. So she helps him learn to control his powers so he can kill Lilith and get revenge, and apparently Sam didn't bother planning further ahead than that. It's still all about Dean. "What she said, it was what you would have said."
Of course that's all just my opinion, expressed very ineloquently.
I really want to know more about Ruby's motivation, what is she getting out of all this? Other than Sam. I still really want for her to be screwing him over, that is what will really make me like her. I still prefer Katie Cassidy but oh well.
Also, how fabulous is Uriel? I kind of love him. Yay for the creepy ass angels!
