After a good few months, I've finally received my "Relationships among Scientific Paradigms" posters from Information Esthetics... (I ordered four for giggles.)

Citations and authors form the base of the chart, papers cited together by authors of other papers form the paradigms (as represented by pale circular nodes,) while links between the paradigm as created by papers that; well, cross paradigms. Some 800 000 papers was roughly sorted into 776 scientific paradigms, with those that are related brought together by the links (which act as rubber bands, countering a physical simulation that forces all paradigms apart.)

I've spent the past few hours just randomly tracing the lines, reading the feathery words (common words unique to each paradigm.) It really is mesmerising, the disjointed yet connected words make me wish I could read and assimilate all 800 thousand papers...

I think I'll wood-mount the poster, then ball-mount it for ease of reading (perhaps via a VESA mount with complete rotational freedom.)

Ugh, I need to write more.
