Anyone Wanna' Save A Horse?

Mou...

Mom told me yesterday that Méla broke up with Trunks on Sunday.

Yeah.

And you know what my first thought was?

It was just a month ago that he spent almost $1000 on a ring for her...

Damn.

You know, though, I don't really blame her: he was moving way to freaking fast, and I've been wondering about that ever since he started talking about how he loved her. I mean, they'd met all of... what... twice, and then he was giving her a ring?

Trunks is very needy...

Maa. I do feel bad for him, though. ;__; I didn't even know it'd happened, so I'm glad Mom told me--I could just see me saying something stupid and having him either hit me or burst into tears, and me going "wha..?"

Hmm...

And a short scene. ^_~

Short, chocolate brown hair fluttered in the breeze, and laughing blue eyes sparkled when the sun glinted off of them.

Hiromi giggled happily as she played with her new kitten, which had been more than cheerfully provided by one Yukiko Kou. She was seated in the grass with the cat--which she had named "Toki"--and waving around a long piece of grass, which the ball of fur was chasing with no little amount of enthusiasm.

A few yards away, in the shade of a tree, Hikaru watched his daughter play, a smile on his face and contentment in his eyes.

"Considering how you and Taiga reacted at first," Josei commented, amused, from her seat beside him, "you certainly do adore her."

"Who wouldn't?" Aqua eyes turned away from the five-year-old girl, toward Josei. "She's damn freaking cute."

"There is that."

Josei laughed, and they both looked back toward Hiromi.

"Why isn't Nozomi-chan babysitting today?"

"Maa," Hikaru shrugged, "she's busy. She does have a life, after all."

"Sou," the volet-haired woman giggled, "the thought of you having a child still surprises me... and Hiromi-chan's been around for five years, now."

"I'd think you'd've gotten used to it."

"Aa, so would I." She sighed, "though really, it's probably the fact that you're a father that really gets me."

"Still getting used to me being a man, after all these years?"

"I guess."

"You're a little slow sometimes, Josei..."

"Oh, hush."

She was one of his best friends, and insults from her were never insulting. In the same way, all joking aside, she knew not to take anything he said too seriously, either. In companionable silence, they continued to watch Hikaru's daughter enjoy the sun and the warmth of the day, along with her new pet.

Hikaru sighed.

"Nani?"

"Nandemonai yo," he shook his head.

Josei raised an eyebrow. "No really... what?"

His eyes closed. "I'm was just thinking."

A blink. "About..?"

A pleased smile lit his face, and his eyes opened, shifting back to Hiromi. "Ah, Josei... I'm a family man."

Pause.

"You know Hikaru, male or not, coming from you, that's about the strangest damn thing you could ever have said to me."

Hikaru chuckled. "Sou..."

He's quite pleased, in case you couldn't tell. ^^

Pretty strange, though, ne? A family man...

Hikaru: Guess it won't be so bad after all...

Taiga: Traitor. ^^;;

Hikaru: Ah, but you aren't quite so worried anymore, either, are you? ^_~

Taiga: *sigh*

lol.

She was in his arms once more, sleeping, looking peaceful and comfortable.

But there was something lurking just beneath the surface of her mind... a turmoil of emotions and thoughts and memories that were only barely there at all, and certainly not clear enough for Akio to see, feel or understand properly.

Blue eyes skimmed across her features.

There was pain and despair, as always. It swam in the back of her thoughts, hiding beneath the superficial calm and comfort that she seemed to be cloaked in, and it made him want to... what? Hold her? Console her? Love her? Heal her? He wanted to help her, certainly, but there was little he could do so long as she continued to resist him...

What it is about her...

He didn't know. What was it that drew him to her? Her pain? Her beauty? Her darkness? Whatever it was, it had called to him for as long as he could remember, though he had never imagined that he would some day he would he able to draw her to himself as well.

He was supposed to be an Empath--he was supposed to know these things--and yet he continued to love her without undertanding why.

As if hearing his thoughts, depthless eyes opened to meet his.

Through the dark, they shone with a tortured kind of shadow-tinged light.

Finally, she spoke in a muted tone. "Akio. Why are you here?"

For a long time, he didn't say anything. And then he countered with a whispered question of his own; "will you let me see, Suta?"

"Let you see what?"

"What hurts you so." His look was sympathetic, his voice firm. "What gives you so much pain."

She didn't look away, her eyes never faltered, never moved from his. "Iie."

The single word was accompanied by a storm of emotions. Suta's expression remained neutral, but Akio found his own slipping. The miriad of tortured feelings made his mind cringe, made him want to pull away... instead, he shifted closer to her, leaning forward to rest his forehead against hers and peer into the depths of her indigo gaze.

"Naze?"

This time, she shook her head. "Just no, Akio."

One hand raised, and he brushed the backs of his fingers along the curve of her cheek. "I want to help you, Suta. But I can't do that unless you let me in... just a little bit." He didn't blink. Didn't dare look away, for fear that she would shut him out entirely. "Why won't you let me heal you?"

"Akio..."

There was something in her voice that spoke of a kind of pain that she seemed to think he couldn't possibly understand. A depth of despair that should have made her scream, and yet continued to stay where it was, locked away far from the surface of her mind.

"Suta, please... I feel you hurting." His hand rested against the side of her face, by her ear, his fingers tangled in her hair. "I feel it, and it pains me, too. Please... let me try. Just let me try."

"I'm not worth this." Her response was typical, but he never doubted for a second that she meant what she said. "I'm not... and I never will be. You shouldn't waste your time."

"I can't think of anything else I would rather be doing," Akio replied softly, "my time is mine to use as I wish, and spending it with you is certainly not a waste." She was silent, waiting, not moving to touch him, though his hand continued to rest against her cheek. After a moment, he repeated his previous question; "why won't you let me heal you, Suta?"

Something in her gaze shifted, and she closed her eyes.

A hopeless whisper. "I don't want to hurt you."

Still working on the second part... it's particularly angsty, so... yeah.

Ah! Also! Cassandra-san, I'm working on the little scene where Josei, Yuki & Suta go ring-shopping with Hikaru, and I just want to know... Kuroi uses "-chan" when referring to Tsuko/Taiga/Yuki/Suta, but what about Tsuko?

Does she use honorifics at all, or does she tend to avoid them around the Neo-Inners, like Suta does?

Rollin' on the river...
