Well my self taught drumming appears to be going well. I believe I am doing quite well actually. I came up with a simple arrangement the other day and I was quite proud. Learning has come quicker than I actually thought it would. I believe I could fake my way through a set list...just kidding. But it has been three weeks and I get better every day.
I still want to take actual lessons, as I want to know all the little details i.e. what angle to set your snare, how far back from your kit should you set up your throne, what tension should the skins be at for optimum sound and so on.
I was waiting until after my knee surgery (scheduled for December 4th) to take them, as obviously my leg is needed to play properly. If that isn't bad enough, I learned I have a damaged nerve in my back. Not sure if that will need surgery to repair it, I will learn more when I see my doctor again, but that also would suck. It doesn't hinder my playing although it does get irritating after an hour or so.
After three weeks I am proud of what I have done and in a year I am pretty sure I will be good. Makes me think if I had actually taken up drums when I wanted to in grade 7, how good I would be.
Watch out all...in one years time you may see Cockfight/Clin-Tron/High of 40 at a dive bar near you...
