Mornings are my friend

The good thing about being a grad student- making your own hours.
The bad thing- having to take 9 am classes about shit you don'tunderstand.
Today we went over a paper, and I had skipped the figures since they were gels and I have never run a gel and never plan on ever using gels. Then we had an hour discussion on the gel pictures.

I don't know if biochemistry is necessarily a field I want to know too much about. The RNA stuff I am doing is remote enough and non-human-biology based that it doesn't bother me. And general biology and knowledge of large systems is pretty good. But molecular biology kind of freaks me out. How one hormone effect expression of a gene which effects the generation of a protein which regulates the hormone. It's too much for me. It just makes us all seem like one big chemical reaction, which we are, with nothing other than proteins and genes dictating who we are. Knowing it on a general level still leaves some mystery. Knowing all the details destroys any mystery I'd like to build up.
