So, to explain why one should never skydive while having a sinus infection/head cold......
Well, alright. First off, when you have a sinus infection/head cold, there is pressure built up in your nasal cavities and ear canals. When on the ground, the pressure is constant and annoying and painful, but not TOO painful. At 13,000 feet, however, there is no pressure to pain or annoyance in the nasal cavities or ear canals to speak of. It is non existent. The air pressure is so low at 13,000 feet that the nasal pressure is released and, therefore, there is no pain. When you jump from the plane and begin your descent(sp?) at 120 M.P.H (Terminal Velocity) the pressure builds in your nasal cavities and ear canals at such a rapid pace, that is feels as if your head is about to explode around your eyes. It wasn't so bad during the jump itself, but once I was on the ground, it hit me, full force. My eyes watered to the point I couldn't see. My nose was fully plugged and I couldn't breath out of it. My mouth was dry (Understandably so). I was dizzy. The pain was so unimaginably harsh that I threw up. You know all that fun stuff while you have a head cold or a sinus infection. So, needless to say, the after effects of the jump were not fun. The jump itself, however, was spectacular. The view was amazing. The adrenaline was intense. I would, without a doubt, do it again and again.
Matter of fact, I am planning on going again before I leave for boot camp (Health permitting). If anyone would like to join me, (Highly recommended as long as you aren't sick at all) then just let me know. I am planning on going during a weekday because it is cheaper. For those of you who are interested, it's $150 per jump. If you want a video, it's $65. Most likely near the end of April is when I am going again. Unfortunately it is a bit of a drive so I will also require gas money. About $10 per person should be sufficient. So, bring about $200 if you want to go. I can't remember if they included tax with the $150 or not. $200 should be more than enough for the skydiving part of the trip. (Unless you want a video, and which point, like I said, add $65.)
Let me know if you want to go by leaving a comment.
