1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate!
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

1. What is you favorite/best memory of your military service?

There are a lot of good memories. I'm tempted to say my first time flying solo, but I don't want to give the impression that it was all downhill from there. No, earning my wings was a great experience, because it marked the beginning of a great career. There's nothing else in the world like flying a fighter jet. And completing my training and truly becoming a pilot - being up in the air, knowing that, thinking of all my father's medals, and my grandfathers', and knowing now I was really going to be a part of it too... It was one of the best feelings I've ever had.

2. You commented that your son's finally done something right. Seems to me you're disappointed in him, why?

That's a pretty loaded question, there. Hm. Where do I even start...?

My son, Greg...

3. What do you do as a hobby or past time?

Well, I never used to have much free time - I'm against it on principle - but now that I've been forced to retire, I've taken up golf. I'll admit, it's pretty boring, but it's a good time when you're with good people, and I do like to improve my shots. It's a game that calls for a lot of concentration and patience - takes a long time to perfect. I go to the driving range fairly often. I've gotten pretty good, actually.

I hunt sometimes as well. Deer, Duck, Osceola Turkey... I learned as a kid, but hadn't done it for years, obviously. And then a couple years ago I decided to take it up again. It's a good time.

And then there's our dog, Mac. He's a German Shepherd. Blythe talked me into getting him - her family had one when she was a girl. We could never have had a dog when we were still living on bases, but now, I decided why not? I was skeptical but to tell you the truth, I've grown pretty fond of the creature. I made training him into a project of sorts. He's very well-behaved, does all the typical tricks - rolling over and such. And he likes to curl up by Blythe's feet when she's reading.

4. Tell me about Mrs. House.

Blythe is an amazing woman, she really is. She has endless patience. I can't ever hide anything from her; she has this way of knowing what I'm feeling, of reading my moods, and adjusting herself to them. I lose my temper sometimes, and she can almost always calm me down, make me see reason. I don't think we've really ever fought in all the years we've been married. And that's a long time, almost 50 years now. She's always kept things running smoothly in the house, and she did her best to keep Greg out of trouble as a kid. Of course, I'm afraid she also spoiled him somewhat... But she's a lovely woman - a very kind, generous woman.

5. What's one thing you think you still have to complete before you die?

Oh, there's always something that can be improved, something more to be done. I've got to beat O'Malley at a game of golf one of these days. And I've got to finally actually catch one of those damn Osceola Turkeys. I can't believe I still haven't killed one. I'd say I wanted to teach a few things to my grandkids but the fact is, at this point, one of the things I'm hoping for before I die is just to have grandkids - at least one. To tell you the truth though, I've given up hope for that. Greg is never going to get it together. I guess that's another thing to complete before I die - getting through to him somehow. But it's a practice in futility is all it is. Might as well beat your head against a brick wall. I don't know...

And what else...? You know, one of these days, I'd like to get a plane of my own and fly all the way around the globe. Heh.
