Well, I've been here roughly the same amount of time as you, give or take a couple months, so I probably can't give you too much of a differing perspective. What I wouldn't give for more of the modern conveniences of home...

[Mulder's definitely picking up on the hint he's giving there. But he'll play it cool and let it come up if he wants it to.]

What brings on this line of reflection, Robert?

[Oh, for more technology... Robert would gladly do those missions if it meant access to technology for the village.]

Ah - well, I... suppose that... the length of time I have been in Luceti is such that... I wonder what exactly it has done to me...

[He smiles wistfully, a little sadly.]

...

Would... would anyone even recognize me, I wonder...?

That's a good question. We're all inevitably changed by our experiences, one way or another, be it physically, mentally or otherwise. Do you think you've changed much since coming here?

[Robert nods briefly, gaze sliding over his hands.]

Yes... I suppose not entirely, but... nearly everything about me has had to change.

...

Sometimes I... miss it. Sometimes I think it is an improvement.

And sometimes I am... not entirely sure of either...

It's hard to be sure of anything in this place, isn't it? Sometimes, you can't even be sure who you are. [Those experiments are never fun to wake up to.] Even the things you're unsure about can still be changed for the better, though...

... Do you have... any suggestions, in that regard, Mr. Mulder? [He honestly doesn't know where to start, and Robert has never been a person who's been good at this sort of decision.] That is, to... f-find a way to constructively deal with changes...?

Well, first of all, I suggest getting a cake. [Yes, he hasn't forgotten he's meaning to find out more about that hint of his.]

Other than that... a lot of dealing with change is in your attitude. How you cope with it. You can't stop all changes from happening, so keeping an open mind is a good idea. You probably have some idea of the kind of person you want to be, right?

... A cake...? [That seems so non-sequitur. Robert has no idea Mulder is trying to hint at what day it is, though...]

... As for the sort of person I want to be... w-well, I am... not entirely c-certain. I mean, it is... er... r-rather subjective.

...

And I... w-want to be someone Don can... appreciate...

And knowing that Don is a good guy, I'm sure he'd also want you to be someone who you appreciate yourself. It takes some time to figure out completely.

...as for the cake, most people have them on their birthdays. Though cupcakes are an ok substitute.

... Oh. Yes... [Suddenly awkward, here. Robert actually hasn't realized he basically didn't tell anyone.] I... I apologize for not telling you earlier...

... But yes. I... w-was considering pie. [Because he likes pie... never mind he'd make it himself.]

[Good think Mulder is good at catching things.]

Pie is also completely acceptable. Any type in particular?

Ah... [His voice shifts into something almost shy.] Well, I... I was going to make blueberry pie...

So you are having a little celebration. Good, you should live it up, especially in a place where you can get any sort of pie for free. I take it blueberry is a personal favorite?

Yes, it is... [He smiles a little shyly at that.] I have... always been fond of them, despite their... relative rarity at home.

[In fact, it just goes to show how well-off his family is, that he could eat them with any regularity.]

They seem... far more common here, though.

... Do... you have a favourite?

They're that rare? [Interesting little detail about his world.] Oh, I'm partial to sweet potato pie, myself. I could eat an entire pie of the stuff in one sitting if I'm not careful.

... Many cultivars are, yes... Fortunately, careful cryogenic preservation and... re-breeding has allowed to salvage species in most cases.

...

Sweet potato pie...? [He might simply be unfamiliar with the term.]
