So that's the infamous nanocomputer. There's no rush on the demonstration, but you already know you can count me in on seeing its capabilities.

Is everything alright over there?

I am glad, Mr. Mulder. You were one of the people I wanted to have present for its demonstration.

[He pauses hesitantly. How much can he say to Mulder...? Though Mulder does know Don.]

... At the moment, yes. Everything is stable. Comparitively.

The situation will take quite some time to resolve, however. [Because cutting a hole open in somebody's plastron and then putting the piece back is not something that'll just heal up in a day.]

Good, when you're ready just let me know when and where, and I'll be there.

[He notices the hesitation and considers that a bit.]

Only 'comparitively' stable? Did the Malnosso abduct and return someone?

[As with Litchi, Robert hesitates and carefully filters this beforehand. It might be good for Mulder to know this...]

Don's brother was kidnapped for three weeks, and just returned recently. The Malnosso did something absolutely despicable to him.

[He pauses to collect himself, before he writes with a distinctly shakier hand:]

Vivisection.

It will be awhile before he makes a full recovery, for obvious reasons. But his condition at the moment is stable, as far as we can tell.

WHAT!?

[It's a good thing the sound feature is turned off, because Mulder shouted that before he wrote it out. He'd love to go beat up some Malnosso about now.]

Those sick, demented bastards. We really need to find them where they're hiding and give them what's coming to them.

I'm sorry that happened... I hope that he gets better soon.

[One soft little sick noise might be audible - just barely - over the journal system, from Robert.]

It is beyond anything rational.

I cannot even comprehend how it would even be possible to do that to a sapient being.

And yet, the Malnosso could.

[He shakes his head slowly, his expression full of mixed emotion.]

I do not even know if I could bring myself to do even the beginnings of what they do to us, to them. Because I am not the monster that they are.

[He understands why the Hamatos are so afraid of scientists, if this is the picture they had of them.]

You're definitely no monster. There are plenty of others out there just like you, who use science for good, and not evil... the Malnosso clearly aren't those people.

[It pisses him off SO MUCH, especially because he can't get out there and kicks their asses. God, would he ever like to.]

We're going to get them. I don't know how, or when, but we HAVE TO. For Don's brother, and for everyone who's suffered at their hands.

[Honestly? Robert is not the kind of person to want to hurt anybody at all; his anti-violence taboos are huge and consuming. But this enrages him to the point where a tiny part of him - a part he's ashamed by - wonders how it would feel if the tables were turned awhile.]

I have no idea how we could even access their facilities.

But something has to be done about these abominations, eventually. On Terra, these would be considered high crimes against sapients, and worthy of lifetime imprisonment sentences.

And the most infuriating part is that there is so little that we can do to prevent it, or even understand why it is done at all.

[Mulder is definitely more than willing to beat up people who he considers scum of the earth, who deserve it. The Malnosso definitely fit that category.]

We're powerless and always left in the dark, and they go to great lengths to keep it that way. Believe me, I'm going to put all my efforts into finding some way to get to them.

[He's solved cases this weird, surely he just has to keep at it... At least he's unlikely to give up. Especially when things like this get him all fired up.]

If only we could breach that thrice-damned barrier. Then perhaps we could do something lasting.

[Giving up wouldn't be helpful, even if the cynical part of Robert says that they'll never find out. The curious scientist that he is says that they just haven't explored all the available avenues yet.]

Perhaps if there was some way to collect the droids' technology, we could reverse-engineer it. After all, there must be some method by which they pass the barrier, unless it is dropped temporarily in a local area for them.

Hm... it sounds like a good idea in theory, but we'd have to get around the initial difficulty of catching a droid in the first place. From what I gather, no technology or magic has worked so far...

[Not that he'd even give up on THAT, but it's up there as a mystery that's been bothering him since he heard about it.]

I have heard and seen people occasionally breaking them, though I have no idea if there is some kind of collection program.

But if they can be broken apart, and somehow the pieces can be taken...

[It's risky and probably would involve somebody's death, but...]

The problem, of course, is the lack of technology here. It would be difficult at best.

It's worth a try. We may not have access to the best technology, but maybe we can work with what we have.

That is true, and we might even be able to get the Malnosso to inadvertantly assist us, somehow.

Though I would not wish to push my luck. Who knows if they would?

[And they're reading these conversations anyway, aren't they.]

Anything is possible, even if it may seem unlikely. There may come a time where something works in our favor.

[Yeah, Mulder is pretty much used to that thought, he's used to being paranoid about being watched anyway. Half the time he gets urges to just wave and say hi to them to remind them that he knows that they know what he's saying.]

Perhaps, if we make friends within the Malnosso - do you think it might be possible, for somewhere, a Malnossian scientist to perhaps have a different view?

[Because Robert is clinging to this possibility. He... he genuinely wants to be friendly with Molly, and he's maybe using this as an excuse.]
