May: A synopsis thus far

May 22, 2005 10:41

Shoshanah and Emmanuelle's birthday: Celebrated with friends, good beer, great wine and outstanding port at Vineyards.

Graduation: Last wednesday. Beautiful ceremony at the Museum of Civilization in the Great Hall. It took WAY too long for the 130 grads to all cross the stage, and the boredom was followed up by Senator Dr Willy Keon (the keynote speaker) preaching his political agenda to us. It was neither moving nor appropriate for a graduation speech. The honorary class presidents and our valedictorian spoke wonderfully, however. I missed my mom. Thanks to Pop, Aunt Collette, Doreen and Carolyn for coming.

Grad Ball: At the Chateau Laurier. Very fancy schmancy. It was everything one would expect from a semi-formal: Friends who, because of the dresses and suits, seem somehow less approachable. Good food in small proportions. Free wine. God-awful music. The two student Deans were guests of honour and spoke briefly. They both included a lot of personal comments directed to various members of the class, which made me realize just how caring these two people are and how close they had become to people in my class. It made me feel proud of this Faculty, a feeling that has been much to foreign to me for the past couple of years.

Long weekend: No big plans worthy of posting. My Pop's around until later today and we've had a good visit. I truly like the relationship I have with my father. He is a good friend.

Next week: I'm around taking care of various minor chores. Going with Sho and a real estate agent to look at condos in the market Monday (I'm all geared up for indieyuppiedom). Jamming Tuesday.
