Ok, that aside, I can speak openly about the movie.
Didn't like it.
Which is exactly the way I responded when I walked out of the first one. It's basically the same as the first movie... really decent set pieces punctuated by clunky, interminable drek and sub-sophomoric humor about fluids, genitalia, and apparently special brownies.
The action scenes were pretty decent, though. However, that said, I felt by the end of the movie that it all felt the same over and over again. I continually lose track of which robot is which, and the continual brutality and rounds fired seemed to be repetitive and fruitless.
Things I liked:
- Optimus had his dignity restored.
- Spike was no longer the spastic twit he was in the first movie. He was the strength of the film, actually.
- The first half of the movie.
- Wheelie was actually likable when he was doing his Steve Buscemi schtick.
- Judy Witwicky.
Things I hated:
- The ghettobots. God, I wanted to throw something at the screen every time they were on.
- Great new autobots that only got, like, two minutes of screen time total.
- The roommate.
- Section 7 dude. He was better, but Jesus Herbert Christ on Viagra, did we really need the thong shot?!?
- The second half of the movie.
I don't know... there were lots of kids in the theater that laughed at all of the stuff that made my toes curl, so maybe I'm just getting too old for this kind of movie. Anyway, as Tygress put it, when it was Michael Bay Awesome(tm), it was Awesome. When it wasn't, it was pointless and horrid.
