Update of Independence (and exposition)

Hope everyone had a good 4th!

I started by taking off just a leetle early on July 3rd, to meet tygress1313, lotuslion, and 5thhouseruler at Uncle Julio's Rio Grande for din-dins, followed up by BIG EFFIN ROBOTS. So, we did that. After the movie, I really have to admit, there's a lot of problems with that movie, which hung with me after the movie was over. Right after the movie, I said that I didn't really like it. I've since amended my opinion to say that I did like it, but there was a lot I could do without. That's all I'm really going to say about the movie, so as not to spoil absolutely anything about it.

Yesterday (the actual holiday), we slept in a bit late, which we both needed. In discussions for what the heck to do with our day, we ended up having a light breakfast, watched Roughnecks: The Pluto Campaigns, then went to Growlers for lunch. I wanted to get some more Centennial before it was all gone. Guess what. It was all gone. Damn. So I "made do" with a quart of porter. Isn't it funny how saying "a quart" makes it sound more than saying "two pints"? We had all appetizers, since we didn't want fries. Turned out Tygress got fries, anyways. Alas.

After lunch, things went downhill for me fast. For starters, my knee started hurting. Not sore or achey... if I pulled it a certain way, it would give me a nice sharp stinging sensation. I think I might have hurt my knee sometime in the last couple days, but I'm not sure exactly how. So, I nursed it the rest of the night.

Second thing that happened was that I developed a MASSIVE HEADACHE OF DOOM. It started as a caffeine withdrawal headache, as I so cleverly managed to forget to make myself coffee, and I ordered beer instead of coke at Growlers. But it hit me harder than the average headache... like a load of bricks pressing on my head. I suspect that a big storm system moving through the area added barometric douchebaggery to my headache symptoms. I took two aspirin, took a nap, upgraded to Aleve, and then made myself some coffee finally. The headache broke at about 8pm, when I felt human again. Unfortunately, Tygress was having a bad day yesterday with the hyperemesis, such that the smell of the dish we had been slow-cooking all day was making her ill.

So, we watched Casino Royale late into the evening. All said, kind of a poopy 4th of July. We both looked at the news reports of all the security trying to get into The Mall and how they had to evacuate everyone for a storm, and then let them back in... sorry, I don't plan on doing the DC thing, like, ever. Too many people, too much security, just too much. I might try something lower-key. I'm used to doing fireworks on the levee my whole life, when the entire population of Baton Rouge used to go out to the river. It was one of only a couple things that made the downtown actually worthwhile when I was growing up. The rest of the year it was a ghosttown, or the set to a John Carpenter post-apocalypse movie. The downtown area has been slowly resurrecting in the last couple years, but for most of my growing-up years... the fireworks on the levee was a seminal Baton Rouge event. Many good memories there. So, I would like to find a place that Connor can have those memories, as well... something that happens every year. A smaller town's celebration perhaps. I don't know. I'll have to do some more looking come next year.

I suspect holidays are going to mean more with a kid, now. I've gotten kind of cavalier about a lot of things, which I suspect will suddenly become more important.

Anyways, quick comments on what I watched. Roughnecks is a very impressive animation for its day, but is now somewhat dated. The writing sucked... dialogue more than plot. Overall, it was warming up after ep. 5, but I don't think I'll have the patience for it. I just kept wishing it was a Starcraft series.

Casino Royale was pretty good. I like the new Bond, frankly. I think he has far better chemistry with Judi Dench than did Brosnan. But I'll withhold final judgment until I see another non-origin movie.

So there. Today, I have completed all items on my week's to-do list, and the boss said he'll be late today. I want to do some writing, though. My appetite for Inverse plots has been inflamed, and I also have a notion of doing an original universe Corridor screenplay. I don't know, might just be the moon phase, or something.
