Close second in the fight to be my favorite element...fire...but it only begins to describe my day.
First off, my morning began with an abrupt start as my boss decided to call me at 6:20am to tell me I'm working 3 days this week (so far) at Miller Hill.
Normaly: YAY! WORK! $$!! HOWEVER...my opinion about that has changed...but anyway: Since I go to bed close to 1am almost every night...6:20 is NOT a good time for me to be, you know...waking up. So I crawl back into bed, put on the Free Beer and Hot Wings morning show and just as I'm getting comfortable...the phone rings again!
I figured: "nahhh...can't be for me," so I let my Uncle get it. (He's downstairs, sitting in his comfy chair with a cup of coffee and in his robe, up at the crack of dawn every day to read the paper as it hits the door-step!!! Are all old folk like that?!) Of course it's my boss calling me back to ask me to come in early...at this point it sounds like a GREAT idea! I can catch up on some missed hours over the last week and make more cash.
I finally manage to fall back asleep...but you know how morning sleep is after you've been woken up already...it's not very restful (This occurs almost every day now for me...it's a stupid patern but I can't change it without sacrificing some of my favorite late-night activities...like, playing on the internet! )
When I finaly DID get up...I had to spend my morning doing chores...I was supposed to wash the dishes and take out the garbage ...my laundry also needed doing so I started that. Since I slept in till nearly 10, and was going into work early at noon...I had 2 hours to get everything I had to do, barely had time for a bowl of cereal even! (Somehow I squeezed in a bath...don't ask me how!)
So I rushed off to work, found the time to stop and get my usual can of Arizona Iced Tea at Sunoco, listening to some 80s rock on the way. This is the part where the rap breaks down...everyone's actin' like it's 8-mile now.... *cough-cough* *ahem* I mean...yeah....
So What I had to do at the first school was help set up for an elementary graduation tomorrow. Sounds easy right? Just move some chairs, set up some risers, bring in the piano....NO! They find a way to make it REALLY HARD! Everything was fine up until we had to move in the chairs for the adults to sit in! They used to be stored in a room on the same floor as the gym and fairly easy to access...but not so any longer! Me and Laura, the only custodian at this particular school (it's a dinky place that only does 4th and 5th graders) had to go down to the basement where the chairs are now, load them on the elevator as many as we can, and then run back upstairs, unload them, bring them into the gym...then set them up. To the tune of 300 CHAIRS!!!!! (this after 91 littler chairs for the kiddies)
then repeat....4 TIMES.
Needless to say I was a little late getting to my "normal" shift at the school up the hill from there. (aptly named: Miller Hill school) When I get there, I figure..."fheeww! I'm tired, but now things are gonna be fine cause I just have to do my normal job!" WRONG AGAIN. Not only am I late and having to catch up on my normal section cleaning, but my co-worker Vince soon finds me and informs me...we have a coupple palettes of boxes to move. So periodicaly throughout the night, we had to stop what we were doing, go load boxes of garbage bags for next school year onto the hand truck, wheel them to the basement stairs, then haul them down the stairs onto another pallette in the basement! By the end of the night we had moved over 1700lbs worth of boxes of garbage bags!!!
I am thuroughly wiped out..my arms are like j-e-l-l-o...and my feet, opposed to their normal achy condition after work...are on FIRE. (However after all that heavy lifting I can't help but think that I'm becoming...stronger perhaps? *looks at defenition forming in arms* hmmm...
I did discover one really neat thing at work today tho...and it involves music. Earlier in my shift, I hadn't put on my iPod Nano yet, and my feet were begining to bother me, sometimes getting so bad I purpously started to change how I was working to make them feel a lil less painful...this of course just slowed me down. However after I had put on my tunes and started concentrating on what I was doing and getting fairly absorbed into the music at the same time...the pain substantialy subsided! I'm not sure if this is a form of music therapy in action, or simple mind over matter...but I'm even more a fan of music now, knowing that it can eliviate pain with the right mindset.
I did see the first fireflies of the summer durring my ride home...man I need a vacation.
Anyway...I've dragged on long enough...I need to go brush my teeth and get ready for bed...
