A flashback scene: a 13 year old Kara clings to her dying mother’s leg, her head crudely-shaved as part of a coming-of-age ritual revealing a forbidden birth mark. The mother takes the blame and punishment is swiftly delivered by Kara’s father, Torok, the leader of her people. Kara’s mother threatens and curses the onlooking tribe, slitting her own throat. A violent end that forever changes Kara and her destiny.
This piece in particular came together in many parts, the tribes people and Torok had to be completely re-drawn in the end, but the results are much MUCH better than the initial illustration. Above is Torok’s stand alone drawing for a closer view.
