Today’s weather-related post opening is ICE!!! We got a lot of it, minimum 1/4″ coating on EVERYTHING. Here’s some nice pictures I took while walking around town today.

Ice covering this utility pole, adding an interesting look to it.

A sharp black and white contrast was formed on the mountains in the distance today by the ice covered trees and the areas of shadow. Also, yup…that ice damn is still on the far side of the river, looking even bigger as the water recedes down slightly.

CCS AWARENESS WEEK: Faculty

From facilities…to the faculty that run them!

Today I’ll speak briefly about CCS’s amazing faculty and staff, who continue to influence me and make themselves available, a full 7 months after ending my formal studies at the school.

Above: CCS Profs ala 1941: Jon Chad, SRBissette, Jason Lutes, James Sturm and Alec Longstreth begin the “Golden Age” Project with the freshman, class of 2012!

The faculty and staff at CCS are not only some of the most exciting, engaging educators I’ve ever encountered in the classroom, but are just as excited about engaging frequently with alumni.

They are very busy individuals. CCS demands a lot out of it’s students and it’s teachers, but I’ve always found my former comic teaching classroom companions on the CCS journey still find time to meet with, socialize with, and continue to teach alumni, despite the heavy work load they all carry.

Every week, there are more things going on at CCS than you can usually find going on in White River Junction itself. Almost every activity that happens, from visiting artist special events, karaoke parties, Steve Bissette’s movie night, Jason Lutes’ Board Game Night, to student-planned events, are open to alumni and community members and often attendance is encouraged.

In my personal experience, Steve is one of the busiest, hardest working and most open of all the faculty at CCS, and I find myself frequently returning to him for advice and opinions. Steve very much wants to see us all succeed as we begin our post-CCS lives and spends just as much time providing information and opportunities and sharing his vast wealth of knowledge and expertise with alumni via individual meetings, post-movie night trips to the local watering holes, emails, facebooking and his Blog as he did with many of us in the classroom.

Alec Longstreth, Jason Lutes, and Jon Chad all love to game. From board games, soccer, running, swimming and other sports, video games, to pinball…it’s Game On! for these three amazing ink slingers. As any gamer knows, the more the merrier.

Many of these gaming events cropped up as a result of bored alumni and students going stir crazy in the summer, but with the excitement people like Alec bring to the table, it’s a guarantee that with these faculty members letting their hair down and spear-heading game days and evenings, turnout will be GREAT!

Finally, CCS’s amazing faculty are lifetime friends. Comics as a whole is one big family, conventions often feel like giant family reunions. I know I can always enter the Colodny and see Michelle Ollie’s door wide open, I can cruise into Movie night slightly early and get Steve’s opinion on my latest page of comics, and that when the weather is right, Alec Longstreth will be the loudest, most positive voice on the Soccer Pitch, no matter how many people show up to play!

Time spent at CCS is like coming home, and the faculty and staff will always have the welcome mat laid out for faces new and old!
