New York Comic Con is right around the corner! It’s one of the conventions that’s high on my radar for 2011, not this year however as I’m still getting my feet back on the ground financially and getting the next chapter of Citadel done. I would like to highlight two friends however that WILL be at NYCC this year and one in particular who needs your help to get there!
The first cartoonist I’ll highlight today, also trying to get to NYCC for the festivities are Vermont’s own Blair D. Shedd! A graduate of the Joe Kubert School, Blair has recently broken into the comics industry with his stellar work for IDW Publishing’s Dr. Who. He also is a freelance illustrator, taking commissions and requests at his personal website:
One Gemini Studios! Blair is in-between cartooning jobs at the moment, having just wrapped up his run on Who, and is gearing up for another, still secret project. In the mean time, he’s slashed prices at his commission page and is having an
ESCAPE TO NEW YORK (comic con) SALE! At my encouragement, Blair has begun to do some excellent process streams over at U-Stream. His
Holding Lines LIVE! show is a great chance to see an all-digital cartoonist at work, as well as pick his knowledgeable brain about the industry, JKS and using a Cintiq monitor/tablet!
Go check out his daily posts at his site/blog, take a gander at his super sale on commissions and also check him out on
DeviantArt and
Twitter! Ian X is a photographer, writer, publisher and comics enthusiast working out of Malden, MA. He recently launced his own comics label, aptly named
Black Label Comics after a year of hard work! The headline titles he’ll be premiering at NYCC are The Deathlings and Black Label Comics Anthology #1, with Huginn & Muninn, and The Dark Age coming soon. Three of these comics also may make appearances first as web comics over at
BLC’s newly launced official web site! It’s an exciting time for Ian who has spent many years developing and writing these stories, and now having secured art talents such as Manuela Soriani, Michela Da Sacco, Juri Hayasaka, Ruben Negron, Jonathan Wyke, Rosaria Battiloro, Paulina Vassileva…you know you can expect to see a wide range of talents, styles and amazing art!
Ian is currently running a
Kickstarter to fund the initial print run of BLC’s titles for NYCC. Be sure to head on over and donate some money and check out the awesome Pledge Level gifts! You can follow Ian and BLC on
DeviantArt and on
Twitter! I’ve become a big fan of both these cartoonists and really look up to their determination, talent and desire to really make it in an industry that most think is running itself into the ground. Please support their efforts to promote themselves at NYCC, and…if you’re feeling really generous, click my own donation button at the right of the page to support my own print run of Citadel Chapter 2 this coming winter! Also, you can Chip-In to help me purchase a new webcam for my JTV Webcasts so I can continue to bring you comic-making process art and video game streams!
