the idea of a two sided mirror is enchanting me.
you have a person, staring at himself, and a person on the other side, staring through the glass. there are a number of circumstances for which this can be amazing:
for our purposes, we will define the person staring into the mirror at them self as the subject, and the person staring through the mirror from the other side as the object.
1. subject is unaware he is being watched. i crave being the object in this situation. the subject will show them self what they think they are, they with alter them self, they will try new selfs out. they will be free. eventually some truth will emerge. some truth in the privacy they think they have.
2. subject is aware he is being watched, object is aware that the subject is aware that he is being watched. all parties are informed. subject will act as though being watched. it is not real. object will doubt the actions of the subject, aware that the subject is putting on a show, a face, a costume... what have you.
3. my favorite. subject is aware he is being watched, object is unaware the subject is aware he is being watched. the test is now on the object. the subject can act however, say whatever, do whatever, and the object is at his mercy. the object is free to be influenced, threatened, disturbed, what have you. the object thinks he is sneaky, and thinks he is seeing true colors. the object will believe whatever he sees or hears.
not entirely sure where this is going yet. perhaps a reflection on something small, some small test of the nature neil likes to run. perhaps it is a reflection on society as a whole... especially in the third scenario, when the object is a pawn.
more to come?
