Charli Adams - Passenger Seat

This pick is a cheat. It's not a great song to drive to, unless it's dusk on at October evening, there's a bit of a nip in the air and frost on the leaves, and you're driving home on a county road. There's no other cars on the road, and as you pass forest after forest your thoughts start wandering into what-ifs and could-have-beens territory. Your vision blurs, and you take one of your hands off the wheel to rub your eyes: you'd begun crying at some point, but just hadn't noticed. There's still a long way to go.
I'm not even sure what's the precise nature of the relationship the song describes - is it a codependent relationship, a friendship with communication issues, someone unattainable she has a crush on? It doesn't matter, and I appreciate the vaguery of the lyrics. It's all a vessel to lead to the bridge before the final refrain, where all the synths crescendo and crash down with the drums and the song spirals into its inevitable, whimpering end.
Anyways this is one of my absolute favourite songs.
